A Course In Miracles--Think with Jesus

A Course In Miracles is a "way" to experience personally and individually a whole new reality that is you, freedom and total peace of mind you never knew where and how to find. Training your mind with its daily lessons on a moment by moment basis will show you the complete unreality of this world of pain, sickness and death. Miracles are the only means at your disposal to control time and collapse your time sequence, thereby speeding up the awakening of your mind to Reality and Love.

What you really are, has nothing to do with the world. The world can only reflect back to you exactly what you thought and projected outward. Its source is not true, being based on an idea not of God. It's all your mind, in other words, you are hallucinating, dreaming, inventing or making it all up. What you experience is the direct result of your thoughts, for how could cause and effect separate? Is this then the world you really want and want to see? Wouldn't you want to wake up instantly, if you knew you are hallucinating all of this? Wouldn't you agree immediately to call this experience hell, if you saw it for what it really is? What point is there in trying to change or fix the world, if it is all your thought? You are not of the world. You are asleep, dreaming of death and guilt. All that is necessary is to wake up, and that is a miracle. It inevitably is your's for the asking. It is your direct experience of God, of who you really are in God's Mind.

A Course In Miracles is all about your change of mind, forgiveness and healing. The instant your mind is changed, you are in a new time and space, experiencing a brighter and happier association of yourself later in time. Forgiveness is the recognition that what you thought you did, or was done to you, has not occurred. Nothing has happened that could change your eternal Reality. Through forgiveness you therefore overlook what you thought had happened, but had no effect and no cause in the first place. Healing finally is the all-inclusive restoration of your mind to its natural state. Healing of the body is not your main concern, for any bodily condition is a result of a decision. Decisions are of the mind. Therefore, true healing needs to heal the thoughts of sickness, pain and death, and the mind that thought them for a little while.

A Course in Miracles

This is what A Course In Miracles teaches and trains you to allow to happen. How does it work? How does it happen? You cannot do it by yourself. We say, you need to depend on God. The idea of your self-reliance is what death is. The adherence to the laws of this world is what death is, perpetuating an idea that is not true. You are under no laws but God's. You are not separate from God and Universal Mind. The idea of prayer is essential to your awakening. Prayer is the medium of miracles. Ask, and it shall be given to you. Pray without ceasing. Be in communication with the Source of you. Ask for help. Ask for help. Again, ask for help. You need help in every moment. Pray from your heart and ask for what you really want.

A Course In Miracles is the determination that there is no world apart from you, apart from what you wish. As you learn to deny this denial of reality, the more natural it will become for you to experience light. Miracles light your way, and true vision shows you a true reflection of yourself that you will not reject. You want to be in a direct experience of God. That is all there is. Once you have this in your mind, you will never again forget what it is you love, and are as a perfect creation of God. It is the healing of yourself, helping yourself, since you made the world you find yourself in.

What could be more simpler than to say, it is a course in miracles. It is about miracles. A miracle will always be miraculous. It cannot be explained to and understood by the conceptual mind. Therefore, understanding cannot be a prerequisite for A Course In Miracles to work. It may be embarrassing to realize how little is asked in return for so much.

So what is A Course In Miracles? It's a miracle that you even heard about it. It is a miracle in all its ways it came about. It is about miracles. It is about a miracle of conversion of your mind that lets you see you are not a body, but free, and still as God created you. It teaches you, being not of this world, to let go of all your ideas and find the peace of God instead. Yes, but, what is a miracle? Can the doubting, questioning mind know? Can it be part of truth, without rendering truth meaningless? It is a miracle. What is it that you really want?

The Course "is a course in how to know yourself" (Chapter 16, A Course In Miracles). It is "a course in mind training", its purpose is "the escape from fear". When you do not know yourself, this then is obviously a "required course".

You cannot not know yourself. It is the only thing you can and have to know. It is the only thing there is. Awakening will not change that. Yet this course is a required course, since are in a condition of not knowing yourself. You are dreaming, and waking up is possible only, if it is your dream alone. Therefore, self-responsibility is key in this course.

"I am responsible for what I see.
I choose the feelings I experience,
and I decide upon the goal I would achieve.
And everything that seems to happen to me
I ask for, and receive as I have asked."

God did not create a meaningless world, where you are left with nothing but getting old and sick and dying in the end. It is an illusion of your own projected self-identity. That is the fundamental difference between A Course In Miracles and any other school of thought or religious teaching of this world. God is not associated with the fear of this world. "God is but Love, and therefore so are you." (ACIM, Review Lesson 171-180)

What hope could there be for you, if God had anything to do with this world? There is only one problem, and there is only one solution. The problem is separation, and not true. The solution is the undoing of it which when complete is the Atonement. By grace you life, and no one is there to take that away from you.

"Into eternity, where all is one, there crept a tiny, mad idea, at which the Son of God remembered not to laugh. In his forgetting did the thought become a serious idea, and possible of both accomplishment and real effects. Together, we can laugh them both away, and understand that time cannot intrude upon eternity. It is a joke to think that time can come to circumvent eternity, which means there is no time." In your requirement to do and undergo this Course you re-evaluate what you think you are. Learning to be miracle-minded, you release the world and yourself of all your ideas. You let go and -- through a revision of yourself which is Christ's vision, given to you through forgiveness -- experience the healing and transformation of your mind. You are free. You are not bound by anything. You are not the victim of any condition of mind, nor any worldly law or circumstance. You are not a body. You are free. This is what you get to see and experience as your reality through the application of the mind training of A Course In Miracles. That is the only real happiness.

We are reaching a critical turning point in the maturing of the human mind. An identity crisis of untold magnitude is now plainly manifest. The human race is distancing itself from clear thinking and seeing, placing its power and identity in the increasingly complex forms and images of this world. Join us now in an experience of enlightenment; the uniting of your mind with the clarity and vision of Jesus Christ. Salvation requires an all encompassing awakening that includes reason, simplicity and the spontaneous action of healing. Your awakening will transform the world through you.

"Few appreciate the real power of the mind, and no one remains fully aware of it all the time. However, if you hope to spare yourself from fear there are some things you must realize, and realize fully. The mind is very powerful, and never loses its creative force. It never sleeps. Every instant it is creating. It is hard to recognize that thought and belief combine into a power surge that can literally move mountains. It appears at first glance that to believe such power about yourself is arrogant, but that is not the real reason you do not believe it. You prefer to believe that your thoughts cannot exert real influence because you are actually afraid of them. This may allay awareness of the guilt, but at the cost of perceiving the mind as impotent. If you believe that what you think is ineffectual you may cease to be afraid of it, but you are hardly likely to respect it. There are no idle thoughts. All thinking produces form at some level." Freedom is of the mind, and you are mind. Do you think you could be really free, if you were other than mind? Freedom is your inheritance, because you are mind. Everything is an idea. Everything is your idea, because your mind and the Mind of God are not separate. Every idea is an idea about yourself. Ideas leave not their source. You are an idea, and have not left your Source, the Mind of God.

Because you are not what you seem to be and think, you have to learn a fundamental idea about your mind in the condition in which you find yourself. What is that? It is the idea that there are no neutral thoughts. Every thought you have affects everything, either extending truth, or multiplying illusion. The world you see is literally the result of your thought. Therefore, what do you choose to think? What is it that you want? Change your mind, because only then you are changing the cause. The world is incapable of change. It is merely the effect of your mind. Change the cause, and the effect will follow.

Again, this then is your awakening to the Universe, to Reality. You wake up from your dream, and leave time and space, to be who you are. You are the Son of God.

Another way of saying this...

You are just visiting here, remembering once again, what was over a long time ago. All you see is the past, because your mind is pre-occupied with past thoughts. Now, through the miracle, you can experience the present. Now is the only time there is. Now you cannot die. Now you are free.

As I said before, A Course In Miracles is about experience, not about studying or linear accumulation of knowledge. You already know everything, you just have to remember where to look for it. You are just waking up from your dream of death, from darkness to light through a new light reference that is now in your dream.

Master Teacher, as a forerunner and guide who reflects to you your own healing and awakening, presents to you words from out of time, rekindling in you the memory of who you are. This is your undoing of your self-concept, the false image of yourself. You are led to the realization that you are God's Son, whole and perfect as you were created. All obstacles to the awareness of the presence of love need to be removed, then you will know that you are pure love.

Do you want to know your Father's Will for you? Are you sick and tired of this nightmare of separation and death in your own self-concept? Who are you, and where are you at home? Do you want to remember?

The Master Teacher of A Course In Miracles

We have observed before how many senseless things have seemed to you to be salvation. Each has imprisoned you with laws as senseless as itself. You are not bound by them. Yet to understand that this is so, you must first realize salvation lies not there. While you would seek for it in things that have no meaning, you bind yourself to laws that make no sense. Thus do you seek to prove salvation is where it is not.

Today we will be glad you cannot prove it. For if you could, you would forever seek salvation where it is not, and never find it. The idea for today tells you once again how simple is salvation. Look for it where it waits for you, and there it will be found. Look nowhere else, for it is nowhere else.

Think of the freedom in the recognition that you are not bound by all the strange and twisted laws you have set up to save you. You really think that you would starve unless you have stacks of green paper strips and piles of metal discs. You really think a small round pellet or some fluid pushed into your veins through a sharpened needle will ward off disease and death. You really think you are alone unless another body is with you.

Tt is insanity that thinks these things. You call them laws, and put them under different names in a long catalogue of rituals that have no use and serve no purpose. You think you must obey the "laws" of medicine, of economics and of health. Protect the body, and you will be saved.

These are not laws, but madness. The body is endangered by the mind that hurts itself. The body suffers just in order that the mind will fail to see it is the victim of itself. The body's suffering is a mask the mind holds up to hide what really suffers. It would not understand it is its own enemy; that it attacks itself and wants to die. It is from this your "laws" would save the body. It is for this you think you are a body.

There are no laws except the laws of God. This needs repeating, over and over, until you realize it applies to everything that you have made in opposition to God's Will. Your magic has no meaning. What it is meant to save does not exist. Only what it is meant to hide will save you.

The laws of God can never be replaced. We will devote today to rejoicing that this is so. It is no longer a truth that we would hide. We realize instead it is a truth that keeps us free forever. Magic imprisons, but the laws of God make free. The light has come because there are no laws but His.

We will begin the longer practice periods today with a short review of the different kinds of "laws" we have believed we must obey. These would include, for example, the "laws" of nutrition, of immunization, of medication, and of the body's protection in innumerable ways. Think further; you believe in the "laws" of friendship, of "good" relationships and reciprocity. Perhaps you even think that there are laws which set forth what is God's and what is yours. Many "religions" have been based on this. They would not save but damn in Heaven's name. Yet they are no more strange than other "laws" you hold must be obeyed to make you safe.

There are no laws but God's. Dismiss all foolish magical beliefs today, and hold your mind in silent readiness to hear the Voice That speaks the truth to you. You will be listening to One Who says there is no loss under the laws of God. Payment is neither given nor received. Exchange cannot be made; there are no substitutes; and nothing is replaced by something else. God's laws forever give and never take.

Hear Him Who tells you this, and realize how foolish are the "laws" you thought upheld the world you thought you saw. Then listen further. He will tell you more. About the Love your Father has for you. About the endless joy He offers you. About His yearning for His only Son, created as His channel for creation; denied to Him by his belief in hell.
Let us today open God's channels to Him, and let His Will extend through us to Him. Thus is creation endlessly increased. His Voice will speak of this to us, as well as of the joys of Heaven which His laws keep limitless forever. We will repeat today's idea until we have listened and understood there are no laws but God's. Then we will tell ourselves, as a dedication with which the practice period concludes:

I am under no laws but God's.

We will repeat this dedication as often as possible today; at least four or five times an hour, as well as in response to any temptation to experience ourselves as subject to other laws throughout the day. It is our statement of freedom from all danger and all tyranny. It is our acknowledgment that God is our Father, and that His Son is saved.

What do you see in this picture? Jesus is alive and right there, but you look for him among the dead, and will never find him there. This need not be. Perception is a choice, and represents only what you want to see. Taking full responsibility for one's perception, however requires determination in doing it every instant, NOW.

Jesus resurrected, and He is with you always. What you perceive is the direct result of your decision of what you want to see and hear. Why continue to look at death and deny the reality of Jesus' resurrection, which is your resurrection?

You can change your mind through simple lessons, offering you the decision to let go of your thoughts and judgments, and lead you into an experience beyond your conceptual self-identity.

Review of the first lessons in A Course In Miracles:

Nothing I see means anything.

The reason this is so is that I see nothing, and nothing has no meaning. It is necessary that I recognize this, that I may learn to see. What I think I see now is taking the place of vision. I must let it go by realizing it has no meaning, so that vision may take its place.

I have given what I see all the meaning it has for me.

I have judged everything I look upon, and it is this and only this I see. This is not vision. It is merely an illusion of reality, because my judgments have been made quite apart from reality. I am willing to recognize the lack of validity in my judgments, because I want to see. My judgments have hurt me, and I do not want to see according to them.I do not understand anything I see.

I do not understand anything I see.

How could I understand what I see when I have judged it amiss? What I see is the projection of my own errors of thought. I do not understand what I see because it is not understandable. There is no sense in trying to understand it. But there is every reason to let it go, and make room for what can be seen and understood and loved. I can exchange what I see now for this merely by being willing to do so. Is not this a better choice than the one I made before?

You are the whole Son of God Himself, and it's important that you understand that the reflections of your own conceptual mind that are out there are actually you in the denial of your Self. The lesson says that when you begin to accept responsibility for yourself that it's impossible that the world will not change.

Let's go to my Savior Jesus. In Sermon on the Mount he says to you: 'You're going to have to forgive your enemy, whether you like it or not.' The reason you're going to have to forgive him [is] that he is you. The reflections of you out there but demonstrate your desire to retain your own weakness and fear of the entirety of the Love of God.

It's important that you understand that the offering I'm giving you has nothing to do with forgiving the evidence of your own sin that is outside of you. As difficult as this may be for you within the perspective that you are looking at objectively, if there's someone out there that can really perform acts of violence against you, and you believe that is true within your mind, the idea that you could actually forgive them is going to be extremely difficult.

The idea that you can practice forgiveness in order to discover the peace of God in you can be very valuable, but if you are hell-bent on believing there's something out there that is causing your pain, your need to forgive it is going to seem unjust to you.

So you have an idea that you can first find justice within the correspondence of your objective association and then forgive it. You are very sadly mistaken. You want to look at that with me for just a moment? All of the problems that you are experiencing within your conceptual fears are nothing but pertainments of your own idea about yourself. What have you done? You've located the source of the problem of the grievance that you hold so that you'll stop blaming your brother.

Now, this offers you a new insight of what forgiveness really is. Forgiveness will be nothing then but the realization of the self-containment of yourself can no longer be justified by the grievance that you hold against God. And that may be a very fearful experience for you, but it's one you're going to have to look at within your own perspective, because the joy that you will begin to feel at the realization of how available forgiveness really is, if you'll look at it from the perspective that you're only finally forgiving your own thoughts, it will open whole new doors of realization within your own mind.

"You can be perceived with meaning only by the Holy Spirit because your being is the knowledge of God. Any belief you accept apart from this will obscure God's Voice in you, and will therefore obscure God to you. Unless you perceive His creation truly you cannot know the Creator, since God and His creation are not separate. The oneness of the Creator and the creation is your wholeness, your sanity and your limitless power. This limitless power is God's gift to you, because it is what you are. If you dissociate your mind from it you are perceiving the most powerful force in the universe as if it were weak, because you do not believe you are part of it." (Chapter 7, A Course In Miracles)

"To be alone is to be separated from infinity, but how can this be if infinity has no end? No one can be beyond the limitless, because what has no limits must be everywhere. There are no beginnings and no endings in God, Whose universe is Himself. Can you exclude yourself from the universe, or from God Who is the universe? Winning World War II was victory over totalitarian regimes and dictatorship, and especially a new freedom for many people. But what was it on a personal level to you, when you came into the harbor of Nagasaki in August 1945? When you saw the devastation of the atomic detonation on the 9th of that month, the whole city wiped out? When you smelled the smell of burned human flesh? When you came into the hospitals and saw the wounded and burned? When you saw the shadows, cast on walls, of those evaporated in the atomic fire?

What was victory then? What was the celebration all about? Could you really participate in it and be proud of what you did? You don't need to tell me you don't have this memory in your mind. Is what is happening today elsewhere in this world much different?

Leaving this world is equivalent to changing your mind about yourself for you brought this world with you when you came. You are dreaming a world of separation, and no part of it is real, including you. You are not a body. You are free. That means you cannot die. There is no death, because the Son of God is free. Forgiveness is the one illusion to undo all other illusions, and truth, unhindered and left free, will dawn on you of itself.

Energy is neither wasted, reduced, nor increased. Energy is conserved and always the same, no matter what. You are still you, and will always be you. Can you see the necessity and value of forgiveness?

"Your Kingdom is not of this world because it was given you from beyond this world. The world is not left by death but by truth, and truth can be known by all those for whom the Kingdom was created, and for whom it waits." (Chapter 3, A Course In Miracles)

"The role of teaching and learning is actually reversed in the thinking of the world. The reversal is characteristic. It seems as if the teacher and the learner are separated, the teacher giving something to the learner rather than to himself. Further, the act of teaching is regarded as a special activity, in which one engages only a relatively small proportion of one's time. The course, on the other hand, emphasizes that to teach is to learn, so that teacher and learner are the same. It also emphasizes that teaching is a constant process; it goes on every moment of the day, and continues into sleeping thoughts as well.

To teach is to demonstrate. There are only two thought systems, and you demonstrate that you believe one or the other is true all the time. From your demonstration others learn, and so do you. The question is not whether you will teach, for in that there is no choice. The purpose of the course might be said to provide you with a means of choosing what you want to teach on the basis of what you want to learn. You cannot give to someone else, but only to yourself, and this you learn through teaching. Teaching is but a call to witnesses to attest to what you believe. It is a method of conversion. This is not done by words alone. Any situation must be to you a chance to teach others what you are, and what they are to you. No more than that, but also never less.

The curriculum you set up is therefore determined exclusively by what you think you are, and what you believe the relationship of others is to you. In the formal teaching situation, these questions may be totally unrelated to what you think you are teaching. Yet it is impossible not to use the content of any situation on behalf of what you really teach, and therefore really learn. To this the verbal content of your teaching is quite irrelevant. It may coincide with it, or it may not. It is the teaching underlying what you say that teaches you. Teaching but reinforces what you believe about yourself. Its fundamental purpose is to diminish self-doubt. This does not mean that the self you are trying to protect is real. But it does mean that the self you think is real is what you teach.

This is inevitable. There is no escape from it. How could it be otherwise? Everyone who follows the world's curriculum, and everyone here does follow it until he changes his mind, teaches solely to convince himself that he is what he is not. Herein is the purpose of the world. What else, then, would its curriculum be? Into this hopeless and closed learning situation, which teaches nothing but despair and death, God sends His teachers. And as they teach His lessons of joy and hope, their learning finally becomes complete.

Except for God's teachers there would be little hope of salvation, for the world of sin would seem forever real. The self-deceiving must deceive, for they must teach deception. And what else is hell? This is a manual for the teachers of God. They are not perfect, or they would not be here. Yet it is their mission to become perfect here, and so they teach perfection over and over, in many, many ways, until they have learned it. And then they are seen no more, although their thoughts remain a source of strength and truth forever. Who are they? How are they chosen? What do they do? How can they work out their own salvation and the salvation of the world? This manual attempts to answer these questions." (A Course In Miracles, The Manual for Teachers, Introduction)

"In order to understand the teaching-learning plan of salvation, it is necessary to grasp the concept of time that the course sets forth. Atonement corrects illusions, not truth. Therefore, it corrects what never was. Further, the plan for this correction was established and completed simultaneously, for the Will of God is entirely apart from time. So is all reality, being of Him. The instant the idea of separation entered the mind of God's Son, in that same instant was God's Answer given. In time this happened very long ago. In reality it never happened at all.

The world of time is the world of illusion. What happened long ago seems to be happening now. Choices made long since appear to be open; yet to be made. What has been learned and understood and long ago passed by is looked upon as a new thought, a fresh idea, a different approach. Because your will is free you can accept what has already happened at any time you choose, and only then will you realize that it was always there. As the course emphasizes, you are not free to choose the curriculum, or even the form in which you will learn it. You are free, however, to decide when you want to learn it. And as you accept it, it is already learned.

Time really, then, goes backward to an instant so ancient that it is beyond all memory, and past even the possibility of remembering. Yet because it is an instant that is relived again and again and still again, it seems to be now. And thus it is that pupil and teacher seem to come together in the present, finding each other as if they had not met before. The pupil comes at the right time to the right place. This is inevitable, because he made the right choice in that ancient instant which he now relives. So has the teacher, too, made an inevitable choice out of an ancient past.
