Formal Suits

In this lens we will discuss formal suits like the tuxedo and the 3 piece suit.

Although the tuxedo technically isn't exactly the same as a suit, they have many similarities and understanding one will dramatically aid you in understanding the other. They may have different lapel styles, but they both have lapels. The button down shirts might be slightly different, but they both have to have button down shirts. Also, they both can take advantage of the bow tie or the traditional neck tie.

In this lens I'll break both of these pieces of fashion down so that you'll know what to look for when buying, renting, or wearing these items. Read more and you will be well on your way to being a well dressed man.

The Formal Suit

The formal suit is the suit you will wear to formal occasions such as ceremonies, award shows, weddings, black tie affairs, and much more. This suit needs to be tailored perfectly in order to keep you looking fresh. The two main types of formal suits are tuxedos and three piece suits.

The tuxedo is normally worn in black and should have a flat front with uncuffed pants. This provides a nice clean look that cannot be surpassed. Accessories should consist of cufflinks, a vest, and a really nice bow tie.

The 3 piece suit can be either single breasted or double breasted. You can also choose between pleats or a flat front, but flat front is more formal. If you decide to wear pleats, make sure you get the pants cuffed at the bottom.

*One Final Tip*

Always make sure to get the proper fit when you buy or rent your formal suit. The best suit or tux will not look good on you if it does not fit correctly.
