A fortune cookie is a crisp Asian American cookie usually made from flour, sugar, vanilla, and oil with a "fortune" wrapped inside. A "fortune" is a piece of paper with words of faux wisdom or a vague prophecy. In the United States and Canada (although also available in other parts of the Western world), it is usually served with Chinese food in Chinese restaurants as a dessert. The message inside may also include a list of lucky numbers (used by some as lottery numbers) and a Chinese phrase with translation. The exact provenance of fortune cookies is unclear, but various immigrant groups in California claim to have popularized them in the early 20th century, basing their recipe on a traditional Japanese cracker.Lee, Jennifer 8. How To Make A Personalized Message Fortune Cookie
Learn how to open a fortune cookie & re-close it with a new message or gift inside!
- First, you'll want to print out your personalized message and cut it to size. (You can also place a very small gift like jewelry inside the cookie if you like.)
- Next, put your fortune cookie in the microwave for about 30 seconds or until it becomes soft.
- Carefully open up the cookie and remove the original fortune and then add your new personalized fortune and/or gift.
- Re-close and re-shape your cookie.
- As your cookie cools and dries it will harden.
