So what IS a forum, anyways?

Think of a forum as a chatroom. Forums often have many different sub-forums of categories, so there's always a lot to talk about. For example, there may be a designated area where you can talk about TV shows, or comic books, or stocks. By joining a forum, you're going to make tons of new friends and most likely, you're going to learn a lot. It's a commitment that is definitely worth your time and your effort.

Making a great first impression...

Your introduction post is the most important step!

When you first join a forum, it is absolutely imperative that you post an introduction - especially in forums with smaller amounts of people. Usually there will be a forum near the top of the page that will have a place for you to post your introduction.

By posting an introduction, you're letting all of the members know who you are, and a little about you. It's a good thing!

You don't have to make your introduction very personal, but you should make it unique. Start out by talking about your name, age, and occupation. Then disclose some random facts about you. It can be anything from the number of pets you have to where you went on vacation last year - as long as you feel like your facts correctly represent yourself!

Do's and Don'ts of a forum

DO jump in and start posting as soon as you post an introduction.

DO NOT go back several pages and post on old topics just because you have something to say.

DO NOT advertise other forums until you've been a member for several weeks.

DO participate in any and all forum activities.

DO NOT post meaningless posts just to raise your post count.

DO read all of the rules of the forum you are joining.

DO check out the websites of some of the members.
