Search For Found Money

While locating your unclaimed funds is very easy, there steps you should take that will help you avoid rookie mistakes that leave a lot of beginners scratching their heads.  The long and the short of it is that you need to search thoroughly (not just plugging your name in to some web site) and search often (not just calling it a day after one attempt.)

Don't fall in to traps that other unclaimed money web sites have set for you, and learn how to get reunited with YOUR found money as fast as possible.  It's your money, why should the government be allowed to keep earning interest on it?

Found Money Is Better Than Free Money

Don't Gamble, Take What Already Belongs To You!

If you're serious about your found money search, then there are a couple things you should know.

One mistake that beginners often make is to search for unclaimed money once, and then call it quits. The problem with this behavior is it doesn't take in to account the fact that states often don't update their records very frequently. It could be weeks or months until the next database update.

Of course one of the other most common mistakes people make is by assuming they couldn't possibly be due a claim because they assume they'd already be aware of it. But this assumption is very wrong and based on the assumption that there are a limited number of potential sources for found money. This is likely the reason that an estimated 7 in 10 people are due a claim and never have a clue.

Below is a partial list of sources for unclaimed money that you may have abandoned or forgotten money in at some point in your life:

  • safe deposit box contents
  • dormant savings and checking accounts
  • uncashed money orders
  • stocks
  • credits
  • payroll checks
  • unclaimed security deposits
  • lost cash dividends
  • court deposits
  • cash or property like cashiers checks
  • securities
  • unclaimed insurance benefits
  • mineral royalty payments
  • found utility deposits
  • unused gift certificates

  • In addition, it's important to remember that there's plenty of money to be found that hasn't yet been turned over to the state, but most unclaimed property sites aren't going to teach you how to locate these funds like UnclaimedMoney.net will.
