The best fountain pens can be very expensive. This means a fountain pen is a gift with a personal touch.

Fountain pens are more than just writing instruments they say something about the owner and they also mean alot as a gift. From Sheaffer fountain pens to Pelikan fountain pens the choice of fountain pen can sometimes be overwhelming. My first special fountain ink pen was a 21st birthday gift. It was very special to me and has lasted me well. It was an earlier version of the Sheaffer Legacy model. Think about the times you have received a hand written letter and compare that to the hastily drafted e-mail or word processed note.Hand written communication means that the person sending it cares, and most importantly they are giving something of their personality not just the content of the message. Giving someone a fountain ink pen is a way of keeping 'personal' in communication, a way of telling someone that you think that what they have to say is important.

There are of course cheap fountain pens and there are some very expensive fountain pens too. Some pens are old enough to be classed as antique fountain pens, others are simply used or second hand pens, and there are even disposable fountain pens. Premium fountain ink pens make wonderful gifts for special events and special people. Fountain ink pens replaced the old quill and dip pens by using either a 'eye dropper or a cartridge as an ink reservoir. The first patent for a pen with a cartridge was granted in France in 1827 to inventor Petrache Poenaru. In the early 20th century a sort of pen technology arms race developed between manufacturers in the USA and Europe. Each design solving problems of leakage and ink flow by incremental improvements punctuated by game changing improvements such as that created by Walter A. Sheaffer and his 1912 lever-filler.

Fine writing instruments make wonderful things to Collect. Some can be incredibly expensive such as the $3/4million Mystery Pen. There are two classes of collection. The first is simply based on design and model, and the second is on historic interest.

nice info on fountain pen. I myself have started a lens on fountain pen. Basically I just list out fountain pens that have transparent body.

I like how you laid out the information in this lens. I actually started a blog sometime ago about fountain pens and pencil and whatnot. I can't believe how expensive some of these are as listed in your lens, but they are works of art.
