Introducing Four Year Strong
Read on to find out more about the fine Massachusetts based pop punk/hardcore band that is Four Year Strong; a band whose journey began back in 2001. If you've got anything to say about the band then please don't forget to sign the guestbook at the bottom of the page; I'd love to hear from you and it would be great to see what you have to say about the Massachusetts pop punkers.
All About Four Year Strong
Four Year Strong is a five-piece pop punk band from Massachusetts; the band formed in 2001 and has to date released a total of two studio albums. The band's first effort came in 2005 with the 'It's Our Time' album released through Open Your Eyes Records, 'Rise or Die Trying' then following in 2007 with its release through I Surrender Records. Since the release of the second album Four Year Strong has now signed to Decaydance Records, the record label of Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz. It has been quite an interesting journey thus far for the band and as time progresses much more will surely be achieved by Four Year Strong as they continue striving for further success.Over the course of the years the band has undergone several major line-up changes; two vocalists have come and gone, three synth players, and also a bassist and a guitarist. It's not always easy overcoming severe line-up changes such as these; Four Year Strong has managed it however and come out the other side a stronger and tighter unit as a result.
Four Year Strong has now been out on many different tours with a number of bands from all kinds of genres. Pop punk's Hellogoodbye and All Time Low have been toured with, but so too have hardcore favourites Every Time I Die and post-hardcore's From First to Last. Add to this that the band has also toured with the now defunct Hidden in Plain View and you begin to realise that this band has now achieved an awful lot. Only two studio albums have been released and it was not until 2005 that the first emerged, the band has definitely made up for lost time however and over the last couple of years has really come into its own.
Having signed to Decaydance Records in early 2008; a third studio album will surely emerge in 2009 and I'm sure that all pop punk fans of the world will be incredibly excited to hear what the band has to offer. 2007s 'Rise or Die Trying' showed a strong suggestion of potential from the band and it'll now be a case of working with this and further honing the sound. The band blends melodic hardcore elements with pop punk twinges also and should the formula be spot on with album number three then it could well be a very good album indeed.
Keep watching out for Four Year Strong, there's definitely potential here and this potential is clearly something that Pete Wentz has picked up upon also. Wentz doesn't just sign any old rubbish to his Decaydance label; Four Year Strong has obviously done something to impress him and if they play their cards right then they could well become a real commercial success with album number three. The band has already kicked up quite a storm within the pop punk scene and it's now all about showcasing the sound to a wider audience and building up further interest and excitement in the Four Year Strong sound.

Four Year Strong - Rise or Die Trying
Rise or Die Trying
Amazon Price: $11.99 (as of 12/04/2009)![]()
'Rise or Die Trying' is the second studio album from Four Year Strong, it was released in 2007 through I Surrender/Hassle Records and consists of eleven tracks. With this album the band shows great signs of potential; the album begins powerfully and the band blends brilliantly the two genres of pop punk and hardcore. The end result is excellent and you really get the impression that this is going to be a supremely sensational album. As it turns out the tracks are all very similar though; it's not a bad album but does seem to lack innovation a little. It's almost as though the band is a one trick pony; that by the end of the first couple of tracks it has already shown you all of its talents and then all that is left to do is to repeat the process.
If you're a fan of pop punk music then there's a good chance that you'll like this album; it's by no means the best album ever to have been released in the genre, it's still not bad though and for a track or two the band really does manage to hold your full undivided attention. In small doses the music is magnificent; over the course of the eleven tracks interest does tend to dwindle a little though and for that reason it's probably not going to be an album you'd wish to play from start to finish too often. That said; a lot of people listen to their music on shuffle and if you happen to be one of those people then by all means invest in this album; Four Year Strong is a talented band and none of these tracks are bad, just quite similar to one another.
I don't wish to dissuade you from owning this album; as I say, it isn't a bad effort and certainly isn't too embarrassing a second studio album from the band; more could perhaps have been offered here but I guess we'll now just have to wait for album number three. With the band having signed to Decaydance Records I'm sure we won't have to wait too long for the third album to emerge; in the mean time give this album a go though and if you like your pop punk then I do believe that there's a good chance you'll enjoy this album. It's nothing particularly groundbreaking, it is however quite a decent mix of pop punk and hardcore and you can definitely tell that Four Year Strong is a band with quite a fair amount of talent.
Four Year Strong is most certainly a pop punk band to watch out for in the future, great things could happen for Four Year Strong and Decaydance could be the label at which the band really manages to hit the big time. Give the band's music a listen, see what you think, and if you like one track then I can absolutely promise you that you'll like them all.
