Colorado's 14,000' Mountains
They are commonly referred to as "The 14ers" or Colorado Fourteeners.
New 14ers are added to the list as time goes by . The mountains continually
grow. New surveys of the mountains update the heights.
Colorado Fourteeners
Colorado Mountains over 14,000' High
Colorado has 54 mountains that are more than 14,000 feet high (the "Fourteeners"). About 1,000 people have climbed all of them. This is fewer than the number of people who have climbed Mt. Everest, so it's quite an accomplishment.The mountains are scattered throughout the central and western parts of the state. All 54 are between 14,001' and 14,433'. Many can be hiked easily in a day; others require some basic mountaineering skills.
The Colorado Mountain Club (www.cmc.org) has good information on climbing, and schedules frequent hikes and climbs on many of the fourteeners. They also maintain the "official" list of all the people who have summited the peaks. They update the list annually.
There are also several good guidebooks to climbing the Fourteeners.
