Amazon Fourteener Guidebooks

How to Climb the Fourteeners

These are a few of the guidebooks available for Colorado's 14,000' mountains!

Colorado's 14ers, 2nd Ed.: From Hikes to Climbs

This is the most useful guide book I have found - it provides good directions to the trailheads, topographic maps, and multiple routes for each Fourteener, along with decent route descriptions.

The Fourteeners, Colorado's Great Mountains

This is the first Fourteener book I owned - it is a good introduction to the mountains and their history, but not useful as a climbing guide.

A Climbing Guide to Colorado's Fourteeners

This book by Borneman & Lampert is a good beginner's climbing guide for the Fourteeners. It does not have as much information as the Roach book, but is excellent if you are interested in the easiest route up each peak. It's the book I used most while peak-bagging.

Colorado Fourteeners

Colorado Mountains over 14,000' High

Colorado has 54 mountains that are more than 14,000 feet high (the "Fourteeners"). About 1,000 people have climbed all of them. This is fewer than the number of people who have climbed Mt. Everest, so it's quite an accomplishment.
The mountains are scattered throughout the central and western parts of the state. All 54 are between 14,001' and 14,433'. Many can be hiked easily in a day; others require some basic mountaineering skills.
The Colorado Mountain Club (www.cmc.org) has good information on climbing, and schedules frequent hikes and climbs on many of the fourteeners. They also maintain the "official" list of all the people who have summited the peaks. They update the list annually.
There are also several good guidebooks to climbing the Fourteeners.
