A step-by-step tutorial on how to use Foxmarks Bookmarks Synchronizer.

Synchronize your bookmarks

In my line of work as a web content writer, it's common for me to visit several websites a day in search of useful resources for writing and rewriting articles and blog posts. Add to that the numerous blogs and sites I encounter while scouring the 'Net looking for blog-worthy topics, and I often find my bookmark list growing and changing at a fairly rapid rate every day.

I also have a PC at home, so I frequently need to synchronize my bookmarks between my work and home computers just to keep them updated. Doing this can be a real bitch, unless you have a tool you can use to speed things up and make the task easier for you.

This is where Foxmarks Bookmarks Synchronizer comes in. It's a really useful Firefox add-on that helps me do all the things I mentioned above. This add-on lets me synchronize my bookmarks at a click of a button, and lets me keep a backup at their website just in case I do something stupid and lose the bookmarks in my PC.

To make things easier, I've also prepared a tutorial for installing and setting up Foxmarks Bookmarks Synchronizer. (Just click on the images to view the larger size)

1. Go to www.foxmarks.com and click on "My Account" at the top navigation bar.

2. Click on "Need to sign up" at the log-in page to create your account.

3. At the next page, fill in all the required details (email, username, password) and click on "Create Account" at the bottom.

4. An activation email will be sent to the address you registered.

5. Open your email and click on the activation link. Your email address is now verified and your account is activated.

6. Go back to www.foxmarks.com and click on the "Install Now" button.

This will take you to a webpage where you can download and install the Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer addon. Install the addon and restart Firefox to use the Foxmarks addon.

7. After restarting Firefox, click on Tools > Add-ons.

8. Select Foxmarks Bookmarks Synchronizer and click on the "Options" button.

9. Enter your Foxmarks username and password, then click the "Run Setup Wizard" button.

10. Just click "Next" on the next screen until you see this screen, where you will setup your account. Just check "I am a registered Foxmarks user" and click "Next".

11. Enter your username and password, and click "Next".

12. A screen will appear to tell you that you are successfully logged in. Just click "Next" to begin synchronizing your bookmarks.

13. The final screen will tell you that you have successfully synchronized your bookmarks.

Now, every time you add or change your bookmarks in Firefox, it will be automatically backed-up with Foxmarks. You can then use your bookmarks on any computer with Internet access.

When you want to use your bookmarks on another PC, just install the Foxmarks addon, run the setup wizard, and you can then get access to all your bookmarks stored on the Foxmarks website.
