Foxy The Rescued Barn Kitty - A Dog's Best Friend

Ranked #7,072 in Pets & Animals, #176,466 overall | Donates to ASPCA

Meet Foxy!

Foxy had a really big job to do, And really big shoes to fill.

In 2001 we got our beautiful Rescued Belgium Sheepdog, Isabel. In 2006 she was injured that resulted in paralysis. For her entire life she had a best friend and companion Abigail.

But in 2009 our Abigail died and Isabel, now paralyzed, was left alone. Both my husband and I work and so she would have to be in the house by herself with no one to talk to.

What are we to do?

She needed a companion. But a puppy seemed cruel, since the puppy would be able to run and play. We were not willing to do that and divert the attention away from Isabel. So we decided on a kitten.

We rescued our Foxy, in 2009, after we got her back to good health our hopes were that she and Isabel would become fast friends.

We were not disappointed and neither was Isabel. It was a match made in heaven.

Yes! We admit it, Foxy owns us.

James and Susan

My husband James and I are what you might call, "real animal people". We have been married 24 years and have had quite the menagerie. From cats and dogs to birds and fish. And we prefer to rescue our animals and we commit fully to them.

We are both nurses. My husband was an emergency room supervisor for 12 years and is now in radiology. He has been nursing about 25 years. I have been nursing 40 years and my career has taken me into all aspects of medicine and I loved it all. I also am currently in radiology. We look forward to retirement in a few more years.

We feel it is almost too sad to hear how someone outgrows their pet or circumstances change and they can no longer keep them. I really feel for the people if they are real animal people, but my heart goes out to the pets. They simply can not understand.

Our Foxy is a Rescued Barn Kitty

We rescued Foxy. We have a dear friend that is a feral cat rescuer and she had just made a run of collecting several feral cats. ( which is a whole 'nother story) And she had also collected a little abandoned barn kitty. She was obviously a handled kitten at one time in her life because she was too tame and not at all feral.

But boy was she sick. She was eaten up with parasites and mites and extremely underweight. She had no coat left from malnutrition and constant scratching. She was a mess. Our friend had already had her spayed and she was undergoing treatment for all the rest. But even in her sad state she bonded to us when we went for a visit at the encouragement of a friend that I worked with who knew we were looking for a companion for our paralyzed dog, Isabel. She had told me that she felt "Jade" would be a great match because she was so sweet. And she had been helping to care for her, so felt she would fit right in with us.

When we went to meet "Jade" I expected to see a green eyed black cat. But Foxy has gorgeous golden eyes that are wide and clear and so expressive. So we knew we would change her name. We also knew nothing was going to keep us from taking her home. She just belonged.

We named her Foxy because...

Foxy looking truly beautiful

Foxy has the most gorgeous tail, in regular light she looks solid black but in the sunlight she has beautiful auburn highlights and her tail. has red rings around it from tip to base just like a fox. Get it? Foxy!

I love to compute with Foxy. She loves computers

It does not matter where she is in the house, when she hears me go into the Den where the computer is she instantly appears and places herself on the desk right in front of me and "helps" while I work. It is almost uncanny how she knows I am in there. But she really never lets me down. I know she'll be there to give me attention and assistance. I love it!!

Foxy also loves two other things, very specifically, pens and paper. There is no safe pen in our home. If you lay it down, IT WILL NOT be there when you go back. she will have stolen it and it is now gone. It may be found the next time I vacuum, but not easily.

Also paper, any kind of paper. small or large, white or any color she will shred it to bits. Meticulously and thoroughly as if though she is taking pride in her work.

That's life with our Foxy.

This photo does show her red undercoat a bit better. Part of the reason we named her Foxy.

We Can't Imagine Life Without Foxy

You've now met Foxy and have heard her story. I am sure you agree she is worthy of love.

But as this story started out, she actually came to us because she had a job to do. She was to be the companion of our paralyzed dog Isabel. It did not take long but she did finally understand what we were expecting of her. And our Isabel is such a loveable girl that she won her over quickly.

They are fast friends now and it does help Isabel with the long afternoons while we are at work. The household is peaceful and everyone loves and respects each other

...

as long as we all bow to the fact that the princess is Foxy.

The picture is Foxy and Isabel both trying to be on daddy's lap.

My first sprinkling of angel dust on this lens has long worn off so I am back once again to scatter a little more. It is my quest today to bless all the lenses which I blessed in October of 2010. You are on this list.

I think I'm in love with the entire family!! Foxy is beautiful, and it is so touching that she is such good friends with Isabel. I am sorry for your loss of your beloved Abigail. I know how gut-wrenching it is to lose a furry family member. I lost my cat, Angel, recently (she was 19-years-old & diabetic) and now my cat, Cherub, seems lonely, but every time she starts wandering around the house as if she's looking for Angel, I just pick her up and give her lots of loving and play with her....she's getting more spoiled every day! Both of my cats were abandoned as kittens (Cherub was only about 3 days old, so I had to bottle feed her!) and I took them in and immediately fell in love with both of them. Angel was living under a barn in Tyler, TX, with some abandoned dogs, and a lady put an ad in a free classified paper, and I adopted Angel the day I read the ad. (This lady was not the owner...she had just moved there and said the previous owner left all these animals behind.) You and your husband seem like the kindest and most wonderful people. I wish you both (and the kids) the very best in life! ;-) ~Vicki~

I really miss my orange kitty. We had to rehome him when we moved into town to a subsidized apartment with no pets. I have a mental illness and at this time can't work outside the home- we weren't making it financially in a big house a ways out of town. He went to a good home, but still, I felt absolutely terrible. Financial circumstances were at play- I was devastated and still am. Bless you for taking such good care of our precious pets.

I am the very proud owner (or ownee) of seven wonderfully loyal and loving rescue bunnies. They came to me from very different place and at very different times and yet six have bonded with each other for life and the seventh has bonded with my husband and I to the point where he sleeps between us every night on our bed.
Foxy sounds adorable and now I'm off to read Isabel's story.

We have 3 cats ourselves(we did have 4 but recently lost our 'Wink). They can be your best friends, they know when you are having a bad day, they also let you know when they are having a bad day. Cats bring a different kind of light into your life that is just too hard to explain. Thank you for sharing your story and I do hope that Isabel and Foxy have many years of enjoyment and security together.
