What is Fractional Sailing Anyway ?

Very few new ways to get on the water have happened for recreational sailors until Fractional Sailing emerged a few years ago. When SailTime started this concept, the logical misconception was that it was some sort of sailing time share. And sure, members of a fractional sailing boat do in fact share all the sailing time available on the boat. But that relationship is not a timeshare in the sense of what we know timeshare to be. There is only one owner of each boat. SailTime decided to champion this definition in the market as Fractional Sailing. It's what makes the concept different from fractional ownership (fancy word for timeshare) of jets, yachts, luxury vacation properties and even take part in fractional owenrship of art ! But those are all possessive use of the words. SailTime Fractional Sailing is not a noun. It is a verb. It is something that we do, not something that we own. There lies the difference. A fractional sailing club member gets to enjoy the benefits of sailing a new yacht at a fraction of the cost it would take to actually own one or even part of one.

Why Fractional Sailing Has Arrived

Celebrating the time impoverished !

Why call it Fractional Sailing when it's really just a sailing club ? But fractional sailing is quite different from traditional sailing clubs. Members pay a flat monthly or annual fee to sail as little or as much as they like. While sailing clubs usually have a small monthly fee to keep getting their newsletter and then charge an additional hourly or daily rate depending on which boat you rent that day. The fractional sailing pioneer, SailTime, only has brand new yachts and always will, because a SailTime boat is only kept in the fleet for 5-6 years. Traditional sailing clubs tend to have a variety of boats, old and sometimes new, for their members to rent.

Fractional Sailing gives sailors the opportunity to sail brand new sailboats at a fraction of the cost of ownership. At SailTime you pay a deposit and then a monthly fee to sail as much or as little as you want. Call it flat rate sailing ! The cost of your membership is your only cost. You don't pay yhr monthly berthing cost. you don't pay the monthly insurance fee. You don't pay the monthly loan amount. And, you don't pay for any day to day maintenance. The boats come fully equipped and are cleaned professionally each week. All you have to do is gather up your crew, stow your gear and cast off the dock lines. When you return from your sail, just rinse the boat down, take your gear off and go home ! You get all the pleasure of a new boat owner withoout any of the hassles !
