Fragrances - What Our Noses Know!

Ranked #17,128 in Fashion & Beauty, #309,946 overall

What Your Nose Knows, Might Make Scents!

Does the scent of freshly baked bread bring back fond memories for you? Does it at least get you hungry and make you want to grab a loaf of bread for yourself? Sometimes the scents that surround us can generate fond memories or cause all sorts of other reactions. Depends on what our experiences have been.

And then, there are the perfumes and colognes -- the fragrances of mostly flowers, but also of other things -- that are intended to enhance our style, our attractability, and yes, our stinkiness. Also, how we react to various scents and fragrances depends a lot on our hormonal balance (from the time we were still in our mother's womb!). So, if we are more testosterone-oriented, we'll have an afinity for a certain scent more than someone who has a more estrogene-oriented horomonal balance. This indication of your hormonal balance can also be reflected in your personality and even your career choice and whoever you choose to be your mate! Dr. Diana Derval of the Netherlands has studied this extensively to help marketers of major brands to refine their focus for various consumers of their products.

This Squidoo lens explores just a few aspects of fragrances and their affect on us.

The Right Sensory Mix ... and more ...

What you smell and how you feel about it is determined by your hormones!

In addition to perhaps your exposure to certain fragrances and odors when you were a kid and what you were feeling when you experienced those scents, Diana Derval in her unique book describes how your hormones may also play a major part in how you react to those fragrances, scents, and odors.

After I read this book, I learned more about what kind of perfume I should get my wife and why I should consider a different type of perfume for my daughter--they exhibit different personalities based on their upbringing and perhaps on their hormone exposure before birth. I also learned why certain perfumes annoy me and which ones I'm more attracted to. (It's good that the type of perfume my wife likes is also quick nice in my own perception!) This book will give you a lot of insights -- and if you are marketing a product or trying to make customers feel better about your products and services, you may want to get this book to see what you are missing!

The Scent of Tropical Ginger is Unique!

The scents and fragrances that evoke memories!

Your brain and nose are wired such that certain scents generate thoughts!

Many fragrances are inspired by and come from flowersAlthough we don't have the sensitive noses of bloodhounds (or other dogs), humans still have a fairly good nose. We can pick up on certain scents and odors. We can discern the differences between baking bread or perhaps toast. We can tell the differences between the scent of a rose, a lily, a daisy, jasmin, or apple blossoms. We can tell the differences between the scents of sandlewood, camphor, and cedar.
