Frank Lloyd Wright
He was perhaps the best known American architect ever....
It is hard to truly describe a man who was so influential and so ahead of his time. A test of art is how well it lasts over the ages, and his architectural work has stood the test of time... it is even much more appreciated now, than when his works were first created.
I have always been a fan of his, from the first time I saw one of his homes on a television show. As just a child of about the age of ten, I recognized that there was something so special and unique about his creations. This is why I have dedicated a Squidoo Lens to a man I admire, and who was a creative genius.
Frank Lloyd Wright at a Glance
Frank Lloyd Wright (born Frank Lincoln Wright, June 8, 1867 ? April 9, 1959) was an American architect, interior designer, writer and educator, who designed more than 1,000 projects, which resulted in more than 500 completed works.
Wright promoted organic architecture (exemplified by Fallingwater), was a leader of the Prairie School movement of architecture (exemplified by the Robie House and the Westcott House), and developed the concept of the Usonian home (exemplified by the Rosenbaum House). His work includes original and innovative examples of many different building types, including off...
His Most Famous Masterpiece - Fallingwater

One of his most famous private residences was constructed from 1935 to 1939-Fallingwater-for Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Kaufmann Sr., at Bear Run, Pennsylvania near Pittsburgh. It was designed according to Wright's desire to place the occupants close to the natural surroundings, with a stream and waterfall running under part of the building. The construction is a series of cantilevered balconies and terraces, using limestone for all verticals and concrete for the horizontals. The house cost $155,000, including the architect's fee of $8,000. Kaufmann's own engineers argued that the design was not sound. They were overruled by Wright, but the contractor secretly added extra steel to the horizontal concrete elements. In 1994, Robert Silman and Associates examined the building and developed a plan to restore the structure. In the late 1990s, steel supports were added under the lowest cantilever until a detailed structural analysis could be done. In March 2002, post-tensioning of the lowest terrace was completed.

- I'd never actually seen a photo of Frank Lloyd Wright until visiting your lens (or, if I have, I've forgotten), but I've seen a number of his homes. We used to live about a mile from Falling Water and close to Kentuck Knob in southwestern Pennsylvania. We really enjoyed the tours of these wonderful homes.

- Great Lens. Here in Buffalo, we have 5 buildings (still standing) including the recently renovated Darwin Martin House Complex, whcih Wright referred to as his "opus". We have also just completed a new build based on Wrights plans for a boat house for the West Side Rowing Club on the Niagara River. Cheers!
