FRANK ZANE MR PERFECTION

Frank Zane is a three-time Mr. Olympia (1977 to 1979).

Frank Zane's reign represented a shift of emphasis from mass to aesthetics. Zane's proportionate physique featured the thinnest waistline of all the Mr. Olympias with his wide shoulders making for a distinctive V-taper.

Standing 5'9" Frank Zane had a competitive weight of 180 pounds. Zane is one of only three people who have beaten Arnold Schwarzenegger in a bodybuilding contest and one of the very few Mr. Olympias under 200 pounds.

Frank has written many books about bodybuilding. He received the Arnold Schwarzenegger lifetime achievement award at the 2003 Arnold Classic for his dedication and long-time support of the sport.

Frank Zane on Bodybuilding

Besides the health issue, whats wrong with steroid use by bodybuilders?

"When the winners of top competitions like Mr. Olympia and the Arnold Classic have more classical, proportionate, non-freaky bodies then the public will be more accepting of the sport.

The winners always set the standard in all endeavors, especially in a visual art form like bodybuilding. So when winners look more pleasing, bodybuilding will get more media publicity, and the sport will grow in popularity. My goal is education on how to build the classic proportionate physique.

Frank Zane on Building The Proportionate Body

Frank I want to develop the classic bodybuilder look, any suggestions?

"So if you want to develop an aesthetic proportionate body without freaky size simply take your time and don't resort to steroid abuse.

There are many ways to optimize your body's own testosterone, growth hormone, and thyroid secretion without using illegal unnatural substances. Supplements such as DHEA, (good idea to take saw palmetto berry oil to support the prostate gland in men) melatonin, growth hormone releasing amino acids in free form, (L-tyrosine is a precursor for thyroid hormone) getting enough sleep, learning the relaxation response, and the right kind of weight training go a long way to help build a great body.

"DHEA and melatonin are natural hormones available over the counter""

Frank Zane and Teenagers Building Muscle

Frank can a Teenager Build Muscle Mass?

"A teenage boy trying to build up his muscles generally has little problem doing so, especially if he eats right and works out with proper supervision, and expends the needed focus and effort. Continuing this regimen, a young man in his 20s can build and maintain a classic physique. Something begins to happen in our 30s or 40s and although we continue to do what we did before, the results are no longer the same. The average guy can get discouraged and let himself go to pot, or he can educate himself and do what is necessary to live better longer.

"Expending more effort in exercise does not necessarily yield more results"

A young person does not need hormonal replacement to help build his physique.

In fact, introducing excessive hormones can actually prematurely shut down the very hormonal systems they're meant to supplement. The human body has been genetically programmed to secrete just the right balance of hormones needed, helping us grow and reproduce just fine, thank you.. Having done that, however, hormone levels, including human growth hormone (hGH) begin to decline, generally in our mid-30s, and as the hormone levels decline on the inside, classic symptoms of aging manifest themselves on the outside. We find it harder to maintain lean muscle mass and harder to build up, we begin to lose skin tone and elasticity, and find ourselves more prone to injury. It gets harder to fight "middle age spread" and aches and pains seem more prevalent. In addition there is a diminution of sensory, cognitive, motor, and pulmonary functions, increased fat to muscle ratio, lessening of libido, erratic male erectile function, and, in both men and women, the greater possibility of the onset of osteoporosis. A generation ago we had to live with that. Now we don't!",

I agree with Giovanni. He has the physique I aspire to have. Professional bodybuilding might be more popular today if there were more men like Frank Zane instead of mass monsters.
Love the lens!

Frank Zane is the epitomy of what we call a body builder. Without the use of anabolic steroids or growth hormones, Frank Zane was able to win body building's most coveted trophy. He was, is and always will be an inspiration to me and all the other iron brothers and sisters who toil on relentlessly day in and day out.

FROM THE DESK OF FRANK ZANE

On 22 November, 2007 I learned that Reg Park died. He suffered from melanoma which had metasta-sized through his body. Bodybuilding has lost another great person. Reg had brought me to South Africa in 1978 for two weeks of posing exhibitions, seminars and workouts with him. I never met a kinder more generous person. I think of the Zen Koan, "I want to live forever, I must die." One less giants shoulders to stand on, I will keep training anyway, what else can one do? Reg did it.

Read More About Exercise

Exercise is the key to any diet plan. Even if you only want to lose weight, dieting is not enough. Muscle mass burns calories 24 hours per day and raises your metabolic rate for faster fat burning. If you only diet to lose weight, a good part of that weight loss will be muscle mass and you will stop losing weight and your metabolism will crash, meaning you will need to eat even less to lose more fat.
