Freddie Mercury and Queen - The Virtual Concert on Squidoo
Ranked #9,509 in Music, #252,701 overall | Donates to Squidoo Charity Fund, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation
A Virtual Rock Concert Featuring the Amazingly Talented Freddie Mercury & Queen
Freddie Mercury (born Farrokh Bulsara) is considered by many to be one of the greatest vocalists in contemporary music, his voice covered a span of nearly four octave range allowing him to sing in both the baritone and tenor ranges. He was voted one of the top 22 voices of all time by MTV (second only to Mariah Carey) in 2005, the "greatest rock legend of all time" by UK fans and most recently the ideal frontman in a dream rock band.
Freddie Mercury was only 45 when he died in 1991 from AIDS. His death occured at a time that little could be done for those who have the disease. With research in to finding medications to control the disease, AIDS has gone from a death sentence in the late 1980's and early 1990's to living with a chronic disease.
I think that hosting a Virtual Concert to raise funds to combat the disease that took this phenomenal talent from us much too soon is a fitting tribute.
Enjoy this Amazing Talent that will live forever.

More about the Virtual Concert Series
Breaking the Silence about HIV / AIDS
Freddie Mercury died only one day after releasing a statement that he had AIDS. He has also encouraged fans to pick up the fight. "I hope that everyone will join with my doctors and all those worldwide in the fight against this terrible disease."According to his bio page by the Fyne Times:
- His death took AIDS from being 'something other people have' to something the whole world needed to wise up to. In every tribute to the great man, from concerts to singles, books to t-shirts, AIDS awareness was ever present.
When Mercury died, the silence surrounding AIDS died with him.
This lens was created to remember the life of Freddie Mercury, those who have died since in the 25 years that AIDS as been identified as a disease and to raise funds for HIV / AIDS Awareness as a Squidoo Activist Project.

A Reminder of the Fleeting Time
The lyrics for this song sung by Freddie Mercury, who later died at the young age of 45, have always served as a moving reminder for me to cherish the moments and live for today, since none of us really know just how much time we have.
Cherish Life's Precious Moments.

Freddie Mercury on Queen Songs are Pure Escapism
I like people to go away from a Queen show feeling fully entertained, having had a good time.
I think Queen songs are pure escapism, like going to see a good film - after that, they can go away and say that was great, and go back to their problems.

Virtual Concert Week on Squidoo
Music to Raise Money = A Good Time By All
U2 talks about the One Campaign in every concert they have. Coldplay talks about Oxfam International. A stage with thousands of screaming adoring fans is a good time to promote a good cause.Remember "We Are the World"? Farm Aid? Band Aid? All hosted to raise money for causes. How? Bands got together to perform, raise awareness and donate money. What a great idea!
Summer is concert season. It seems like all bands go on tour. Nothing like live music on a warm summer night!
What if you could host a benefit concert? You have a cause that's important to you. What better way to have it announced than by your favorite performer in a room full of people who paid big bucks to get there?
This is the point of the Virtual Concert Week on Squidoo.
Who would you pick and what cause would you raise money for? Make a lens and tell us about it!

- I get goosebumps just reading your lens, not to mention the lump in my throat. The greatest voice in rock history was silenced too soon even if his legacy will live on.
