Boxing Trainer Freddie Roach

Freddie Roach has achieved many illustrious awards in his career as a professional boxing trainer. Here are just a few of the highlights:

* Inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame, "Expanded Category" (Managers & Trainers)
* 2006 California Boxing Hall of Fame Inductee (Non-Boxer)
* 2003, 2006, 2008 & 2009 Boxing Writers Association of America Trainer of the Year
* 2008 World Boxing Council (WBC) "Lifetime Achievement Award"
* Trainer of 25 world champion fighters

Freddie Roach suffers from Parkinson's disease, the same debilitating condition that affects such other well known personalities as Michael J. Fox and Muhammad Ali. Parkinson's disease is a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that often impairs the sufferer's motor skills, speech, and other functions. Those closest to Roach have noticed he seems to operate a bit slower and become winded more easily, yet Freddie's positive attitude and bright outlook help him pull through. There is no current cure for Parkinson's disease but medication and surgery can provide limited relief from the symptoms.

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach owns and operates the Wildcard Boxing Club where he trains his fighters including the best pound for pound fighter in the world, Manny Pacquiao. Upon retiring as a professional boxer in 1988, Roach gradually began training fighters on his own. Freddie has since trained a total of 17 World Champions. Roach has also been honored as Trainer of the Year in 2003 by the Boxing Writers of America and has been inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame, the New England Boxing Hall of Fame, and most recently the California Boxing Hall of Fame. Freddie Roach continues to be one of the most sought after trainers in the world.
