Freddy´s Book Archive

Ranked #46,976 in Entertainment, #555,741 overall

Here I will write about books I´ve read and my opinions on them. If a book is still in print I will put it into an Amazon module.

Structure of this lense:
Every book (newest books at the bottom) will have two modules. The first module is the "About the book and opinion" module, where I will give a quick summary about the book and my opinion on it. Every book gets a second module, the "Amazon" module where I will put amazon links to any available prints of the book.

Susen Kay - Phantom

You have read the original novel "The Phantom of the Opera", saw the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical or one of the movies? Than you might love this book.

In the movies, the original novel and the musical we only get a small part of the phantom´s story. Susan Kay writes the full story, from his birth to this demise. The book has two parts. In the first part we learn about the phantoms live before he met Christine. In the second part we learn about "The Strange Affair of the Phantom of the Opera" from Christines, the Phantoms and Rouls point of view.

I really liked this book, although its sometimes slow going in a few chapters.

How to get it:
Amazon: Reprints are available on and off, if not you might look in Amazons "used" area.
Ebay: might be there sometimes

Michael Ende - The never ending story

The paralel world "Fantasia" is in grave danger. The child-like empress is dieing, and a strange destructive power called "the nothing" is vanishing the huge world bit a bit. If no cure is found for the empress, then Fantasia and all its beautiful magical creatures will vanish. Only a child from the "human world" might be able to save Fantasia....

Perhaps you have seen the first movie based on this book. If you liked the movie, then you will love this book. It tells the whole story, and is really unique and imaginative. A book for (older) kids and adults.

Stephen King - Carrie

This is one of Stephen King´s first novels. When Carrie, a young teenage girl possesing telekinetic powers is the victim of a prank, she get so angry that she starts a night none of the witnesses will be able to forget....if they surive...

This story is both creepy and tragic. Its a good read, but not one of King´s best works. I think "It" or "The Shining" are much better. But if you´re a King fan you might still want to read this book. Just try to get it cheap or borrow it and don´t expect too much.

Justina Robson - Silver Screen

This book is about a woman whose boyfriend is slowly turned into a cyborg by his work. One of her friends might become pure mind inside a computer and an artifical intelligence is becoming a real mystery.

The story in this book is very thought provoking. What does it mean to be human? What IS the mind? This is the right book for people who like carefully crafted sience fiction storys that have mystery elements.

This book looks at Star Trek from a philosophical point of few. Very thought provoking and never boring read. The perfect book for fans who like to think about the deeper meanings of the show.

Stephen King - The Shining

A family moves into a old hotel. The son, Danny finds out that he is gifted with "the shining", he´s able to read minds and sense things that happened in the past. Terrible things happened there. The house has a life of its own, and slowly starts to drive the father nuts...

If you have seen the "Rose Red" movie you might think "Oh well...another cursed house...", but that bit is about the only real similarity to Rose Red. The book has a very thick and gloomy atmosphere and I really like it. Its much better then "Carrie" or "The Langoliers"

J. R. R. Tolkien - The Silmarillion

The Silmarillion is the prequel to the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. It tells about the how Arda was created, Ardas gods and all what happened before the story of the Lord of the Rings. Actually its made of of various fragments compiled and completed by Christopher Tolkien.

I´m still reading this book, so I can´t give a full opinion yet. So far it seems to be an interesting read. But also a difficult one. Especially the first few chapters are in a writing style similar to the bible.
