"Here I am on Squidoo, piggies!"
In 1984 Wes Craven's film A Nightmare on Elm Street spawned one of horror's most popular icons, Freddy Krueger.
Portrayed by Robert Englund throughout the long-running film series, and even a short-lived TV show, Freddy refuses to die; returning most recently in Freddy vs. Jason.

Inside Freddy
Wes Craven's inspiration for A Nightmare on Elm Street was an LA Times article about people who had died in their sleep after a series of nightmares. Freddy Kruger was named after a bully from Craven's childhood.Official Website
Although known for his burnt visage, Freddy was also imagined as an old man, and several different make-up concepts were offered for Craven to choose from, including translucent skin.
The Nightmare on Elm Street Companion
Craven created the character, but Robert Englund defined Krueger's personality and trademark sick sense of humor, with most of the improv edited out.

Freddy's Nightmares - intro
The first episode of Freddy's Nightmares, directed by Tobe Hooper (Poltergeist), depicted the Elm Street parents hunting down Freddy Krueger to burn him alive for his crimes as a child murderer. Freddy was arrested for his crimes, but set free on a warrant technicality, leaving the parents of terrorized children to take justice into their own hands. Way to go, mom and dad!

Freddy's Greatest Hits
In 1987 an album was released by Ric records, Freddy's Greatest Hits. It features the Elm Street Group, and Robert Englund performs Freddy. I still have the original casette I got when I was a kid. It's not too terrible; and it's not too long, so it makes a cool little Halloween party album that will surprise your friends. There are some original pop/rock songs like "Down in the Boiler Room" and "Obsession"; and some oldies covers like "Do the Freddy", "Wooly Bully", "The Midnight Hour", and "Dream" -- all with a female lead vocalist. Freddy screams, laughs wickedly, and mocks lyrics, sometimes singing them.Click Here to Find Freddy's Greatest Hits on Ebay!
