Freddy´s StarTrek Universe

Ranked #50,007 in Entertainment, #603,581 overall

Hi there, and welcome to this lense. Since I´m a huge Star Trek fan I thought why not start with a lense about Star Trek. So, this is gonna cover everything Trek.

Structure of this lense:

At the top you will find "write" modules where I write about various stuff from the star trek world. (newest at the top) After that are link lists, and those are followed by my guest book. Right at the end are two amazon modules, the first one will always feature articles I have and liked, and the second one is an automatic one showing different Star Trek stuff.

Star Trek Remastered gets new CGI Enterprise

"The Trouble with Tribbles" is the first TOS Remastered episode that features the new CGI Enterprise. Wow! That´s much more like it! The new cgi modell has much more and better detail then the old one, the coloring, lighting and texturing is much better. And they finally got those damn nacelle caps right! They also added a few colored stars to the star fields..seems they´re getting more couragous, wich is a good thing IMHO...but they´re still a bit too overly carefull. Let´s see what they do with the next few episodes.

Star Trek XI script due soon

The first draft of the script should be completed soon. Maybe we´ll get some more information about the story then. The first supposedly leakes bits of the script will surley appear on the net soon. Expect most of it to be fake...but you never know...the complete first draft for Insurection was leaked pretty early. I´ll report anything that comes up.

Star Trek stars in "War of the Worlds"

(updated - now with review)

The classic radio play "War of the Worlds" is now available by LA Theatre Works, staring: John de Lancie, Gates McFadden, Leonard Nimoy, Dwight Schultz, Armin Shimerman, Brent Spiner: and Wil Wheaton, directed by John de Lancie.

I already listend to it, it´s very good. The actors did a fantastic job! The atmosphere is great. Its very chilling and terrifing. I can´t remember any other radio play that had me on the edge of my seat like this. It feels so real, very real. Gates McFadden does a marvelous job as the announcer, her emotions, her terror...I don´t think she ever got to act this intense in Star Trek. Brent Spiner as the crazy stranger is very good too. Nimoy as the professor is good, but sounds a bit too much like Spock IMHO, he could have given the role a bit more emotion. A must hear, not just for Star Trek fans.

The play is available for free until 4 th nov. (see link below).

TOS Remastered Ratings worse then Enterprise but CBS says its okay?

According to recent news the ratings for TOS Remastered are worse then those for Enterprise First Season around the same time. But the guys at CBS say they are okay with it. Uhm...what is wrong with this picture? I thought they would go for good ratings. But apperantly they dont...so why release it on TV anyway if the ratings don´t seem to really matter to them? Maybe some channels will give the show better timeslots in the future...might boost the ratings.

How to ruin Star Trek XI

I really hope who ever plays Kirk and Spock is instructed to play their roles the right way. If they try to use they acting style of the original actors, we´re gonna end up having a movie where the actor playing Kirk actually plays Shatner playing Kirk. The results could be hilarious at best...but probably would be disasterous.

Tom Cruise rumor denied

Sources at paramount have told the Trek Movie Report that the Tom Cruise rumor is not true. To be honest, I´m glad...so glad I could actually go out on the street and dance naked...(ok..on second thought...maybe not a good idea) ;-) I´m really not comfortable with thought that this "person" (sorry to all Cruise fans...but I really don´t like him) and Star Trek ever even appeared in the same sentance.

Tom Cruise in Star Trek XI?

There a rumours that Tom Cruise might be in Star Trek XI, he´s supposed to take a cameo role. Well..I could actually see that happen since he seems to be a Buddy of Abrams. But I´m not sure I would like it...with all the recent "goings on" about Cruise. I doubt if we would do Star Trek any good if someone who´s in Scientology is in this movie.

Dorn and Sirtis say "going back to TOS" is a bad idea

My opinion

I somehow get the impression that one of the main reasons they are saying this is that they are just plain jealous. They still seem to love their roles and to know that they won´t be playing the characters anymore must be hard for them. They have voiced their opinon, now they should just go on with their lives and stop repeating "its a bad idea, its a bad idea..." on and on.

Cloaking device developed

US researchers developed a cloaking device. It works by bending microwaves around the object. At the moment it only works in two dimensions, but they are working on three dimensions, wich would render the cloaked object invisible (for sensors like radar devices etc). But the device is not able to bend visible light wich would be necessary to make it invisible to the eye.

Its always cool when Star Trek inspires the development of technology...but I would prefer it to be technology for peace....not for war.

Star Trek XI - Auditions started, filming could start in spring

"Trek Movie Report" reports that apperantly auditions for Star Trek XI have are already under way. Besides Kirk the treatment is said to contain McCoy and Scotty. The first draft of the script should be complete soon, and it´s assumed that filming could start somewhen in spring. Although the movie still isn´t officaly greenlit its said to be "very close".

Star Trek Remastered - how about a TNG Remastered?

my take on it...

Star Trek Remastered is a very good idea, and I can´t wait to see it in HDTV. Right now its not shown in HDTV anywhere :-(. The new SFX...well, they are doing pretty good I think. But as various sites and blogs have stated, there´s still quite a lot way for improvement. The Enterprise model needs better lighting, and they need to do something about those naccele caps. Recently it was reported that someone from the team working on the SFX said they are working on this very thing and on tweaks for the model and other stuff. Sadly we´re not going to see those changes before the end of the year. I wonder if they will replace the stuff in the already aired episodes with there newer versions?

I think TNG could use a makeover similar to the one TOS is getting. Some of the first and second season effects could use some carefull improvement. Actually, replaceing TNG´s SFX for new versions could be easier then for TOS. When TNG was made, they filmed on celluloid and produced the SFX on video tapes. If the original celluloid material is still there they would have the scenes before SFX was added. That way they would save the time and money needed to remove the old SFX before adding the new. Of course a HDTV version of TNG is a must imho.

DS9 and VOY don´t need new SFX, but having them in HDTV would be great.
