Akon Ringtones -- Where to Get them
Naturally, the best-selling Akon ringtones today are based on these same songs. Typically, you'll find ringtones available for anywhere from $0.99 to $3.99, depending on where you look. Apple's iTunes offers ringtones at $0.99 for iPhones only, while Wal-mart has special ringtone offers priced at $1.99 (text the letters WMT to 40888 on your mobile phone to check out Wal-mart's latest specials). Other vendors such as Jamster, PlayPhone and Thumbplay usually price their ringtones slightly higher, usually $2.99 to $3.99 for high quality music ringtones. Which brings up a good point: if you're a real music fan, you want music tones, sometimes called real tones or truetones. These are ringtones taken from the original digital recordings of the songs. Polyphonic ringtones, on the other hand, are lower cost but far lesser quality. They are "MIDI" tones that deliver poor sounding audio hardly recognizable as the song you want. Steer clear if your phone can handle truetones!

How to Get Free Ringtones
Note: I do not endorse theft of intellectual property! Do not do this if it breaks laws in your country!

While everyone wants free ringtones, they are usually hard to find unless you have a friend in the music business. Plus, it's typically illegal to copy or transfer ringtones to your phone. However, there are ways to make free ringtones if you know where to go. While I do not endorse using it, the most popular site for creating your own free ringtones from MP3 files and CDs is at www.mytinyphone.com. (I am not affiliated with is site in any way--it's in Estonia, for gosh sakes!) Last I checked, this site was still running. That may not last forever, though. Use the site at your own risk and with the full knowledge that copyright laws vary from country to country, and you may be breaking laws by doing so. Anyway, that's the secret.

Akon: Brief Biography
Akon (born Aliaune Damala Bouga Time Puru Nacka Lu Lu Lu Badara Akon Thiam on April 30, 1973) is a Senegalese-American hip hop and R&B singer, songwriter, rapper and record producer. Akon rose to prominence in 2004 with the release of his single "Locked Up" from his debut album Trouble. His second album, Konvicted, earned him a Grammy Award nomination for the single "Smack That." He is the founder of Konvict Muzik and Kon Live Distribution. He is known for singing hooks and has over 130 guest appearances and 21 Billboard Hot 100 songs to his credit. He is the only artist to ever accomplish holding both the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts twice.

Akon was born in St. Louis, Missouri. His parents moved to the United States to avoid immigration issues and so their children could get better educations. He has spent five years in prison and says his time in jail has made him what he is today. He currently divides his personal time between Atlanta, Georgia and Dakar, Senegal.

In late 2005, his friend and manager Robert Montanez, who Akon referred to as a brothers, was killed in a drive by shooting; the album Konvicted is dedicated to him. Akon was also in the car, and he was shot in the shoulder, but he recovered fully.

Akon is a Muslim. Akon has recently said in an interview with an Israeli magazine that he only has one main wife whose name is Tomeka and in an interview with Blender he claimed to have five children with three different women.

Akon also has his own charity for underprivileged children in Africa called Konfidence Foundation. Akon owns a diamond mine in South Africa and denies the existence of conflict or blood diamonds saying, "I don't even believe in conflict diamonds. That's just a movie. Think about it. Ain't nobody thought about nothing about no conflict diamonds until the movie came out." He also was formerly a drug dealer but says he has never used drugs. He also said that in spite of his previous criminal record, he has turned his life around, as he sang about in "Tired Of Runnin'."
