Clean up your computer with one FREE program

Is your computer running slow? Need to clean up your computer but don't know where to start? You've come to the right place. I've tried all sorts of computer programs that promise to make my computer run quicker and save me from manually having to go through the dozen windows processes to clean it up myself. Fortunately, I found one that is simple to use, does what it promises and is completely free to use on-going.

Don't do it like this!

Free Software - CCleaner

CCleaner is a free program for optimising your computer, protecting your privacy as well as removing unused files from your system . All in all, it allows Windows to run faster and frees up valuable hard disk space with just a click of a couple of buttons. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history.

CCleaner was designed from the ground to be safe and secure to use. It has multiple levels of checks in place to ensure that it doesn't delete any useful information or documents you may still need.

I love that CCleaner contains a fully featured registry cleaner. But the best part is that it's fast. Super Fast.

CCleaner works with and cleans the following:

Internet Explorer
Firefox
Google Chrome
Opera
Safari
Windows - Recycle Bin, Recent Documents, Temporary files and Log files.
Registry cleaner
Third-party applications
100% Spyware FREE

Where do I get it?

There are several sites where you can download CCleaner... I got it safely and easily from the site below. Just click on the link:

Download CCleaner

Once you open the page click on the green download button.

How to Clean your computer of unwanted files

Simply click on the Cleaner icon on the top left.

Click Analyze.

Have a look at what files it recommends removing.

If you're happy click 'Run Cleaner'

To alter what it recommends to clean - for example, if you don't want your trash can emptied simply untick it from the list on the left and click Analyze again. Then cluck 'Run Cleaner'

Below is a screenshot of the Cleaner page

How to clean up your Registry Files

Simply click Registry on the left.

Click scan for issues.

Click fix selected issues.

You can then fix them one by one and the program will tell you why they are there (most are mine are left over from uninstalled software) or you can delete them all at once.

Tools available on CC Cleaner

CC Cleaner can also be used to uninstall software. If you click on tools on the left it will bring up a list of software installed on your computer.

You can also click on Startup on the tools page and it will bring up a list of software that automatically starts operating when you boot up your PC. I use this function quite a bit so I can keep the software but I don't have to have it running in the background all the time because it slows down my computer.

See the screenshot below for the tools page.

You can also try this tool to remove all unnecessary problematic files http://goo.gl/sS264. It offers many features. Hopefully it would serve your purpose to speed up the computer speed.

What if you need the files again and you wiped them out with CCleaner?
  • mellex Oct 7, 2011 @ 4:08 pm | delete
It doesn't delete any actual files unless they are in the recycle bin already. The only things it deletes are things like temporary internet files that you won't need again. The program also allows you to pick and chose what you want to delete and what you don't really easily. I've been using it for years and it's never deleted a file.
