Why Use A Content Spinner?

Traditional article marketing has become much harder and far less effective than it used to be. That's partly due to increased competiton but more down to the duplicate content filtering employed by Google and other search engines.

Here we're going to look at how quality article spinning offers a way around this problem, explain how it's done and look at Jetspinner, a new, free content spinner.

What is Article Spinning Anyway?

Content spinners first came to my attention about 2 years ago when I read a forum post from a guy writing a simple script to semi-automate the process of re-writing content for his site. Now there are numerous content spinners on the market, and they are considered by many as a must have article marketing tool.

Content, or article spinning, involves taking an original article and using it to generate 10's or 100's of new unique versions of the text.

Each of these new articles presents the same ideas and concepts as the original, but expressed in different ways. Whilst all make perfect sense and are grammatically correct, each is different from the others in terms of the words on the page and therefore unique.

Does that sound like a crazy idea to you? Pointless perhaps?

Unfortunately you'd be wrong on both counts. Whilst it's ridiculous that it should be necessary, the fact is that these days it is. Unless of course you're not bothered about getting the full value from your articles.

The reason is the duplicate content penalty. And you're decidedly mistaken if you think it's a myth.

The Duplicate Content Penalty

Say you've submitted to article directories and had your article published on a dozen or so other websites. When search engines like Google analyze those pages, they can now see that the article content on each is the same.

Some people mistakenly believe that the article won't be seen as duplicate content because the pages at each of the websites will also contain different additional content as well as the article.

That actually has little effect, because when the search engine compares the pages, it does so by analyzing many short runs or snippets of text, not the whole page as a block. It then calculates what percentage of those are identical between pages. If that percentage is too high, the search engine decides it's duplicate content.

Quite often, most of the additional content on the page will only be links and navigation anyway. Most search engines will spot this because it's identical on every page of the site and therefore give it little weight when comparing the content.

At one time you could beat Google easily enough by using a thesaurus and replacing words with different synonyms. But now unless you do it to such a degree that the article is transformed into near gibberish, that strategy will get you nowhere. A piece of software I bought (and that's still on sale) does that. It now lies abandoned on my hard drive.

Once it deems the content on the different pages to be duplicate, Google decides which of them is the most relevant for the current keyword search, and by knocking "ranking points" off the others it effectively gives that page prominence in the search results. Backlinks from the article pages are valued accordingly.

One of the results of this is that if you write an article for your website and then allow others to republish it, you may later find that another site using the article is considered the authority on the topic over yours. They get the rankings instead of you, but on the back of your article.

Here's the part of Google's duplicate content policy that spells it out. For example, when you submit to article directories, unless your site is well established, Google is more likely to display a result from the directory with your article than your own site, because the directory has a stronger web presence with more links and higher PR.

Article Spinning To The Rescue

Using an article spinner, it's easy to create different versions of your articles for publishing on other sites, so that it's never the same as the version you have on yours.

And when you're submitting to article directories, you can use different versions for each directory, or at least for each of the top directories. This increases the number of chances your article has of appearing in the search results.

I'm not suggesting you should, but if you wanted you could actually build an entire site from many versions of a single article. The words and sentences are so different in each version that every page would appear to be unique to a search engine.

How Content Spinning Works

As you'll see in a moment, the concept behind article spinning is extremely simple. Take a look at these sentences:

1. Article marketing makes for easy income once you've learnt how to do it properly.

2. Once you've learnt the ropes, it's fairly easy to make money as an article marketer.

3. When you've mastered the basic techniques, article marketing can be very profitable.

Although said in different ways, the 3 sentences mean basically the same thing.

I could take things further by coming up with alternatives for words or phrases within each sentence. For example, in sentence #1, instead of "Article marketing makes for easy income " I could also use:

"There's good money to be made in article marketing" or

"Being an article marketer is a good way to make money" or

"Article marketing can be very lucrative"

All of the phrases have a similar meaning and all will join naturally with, "once you've learnt how to do it properly."

This is exactly what you do with a content spinner. You go through your article and provide alternative words, phrases, sentences and even paragraphs for the article spinner software to select from and combine together in different ways at random.

And because the software processes the content in order from top to bottom, although your spun articles are composed of lots of different bits joined together, they always make perfect sense.

As the processing involved is actually quite simple, a content spinner can go through all the variation of the text countless times in a matter of seconds, gluing strings of them together on each run to create an almost unlimited number of new, unique versions of the article.

How To Write With A Content Spinner

A special character, usually the pipe ("|"), is used to indicate to the article spinner that the text following it is a variation. If you've experience of programming, Regex or even the Boolean operators at search engines you'll know that the pipe usually represents "OR". That's exactly what it signifies here.

Your variations also need to be isolated from the surrounding text so the content spinner knows where the start and end of each replacement section is. This is done by enclosing them in a pair of curly braces ("{" and "}") .

If the first line in the initial article was sentence #1 above, this is how you'd re-write it as an article spinner replacement section:

{Article marketing makes for easy income once you've learnt how to do it properly|Once you've learnt the ropes, it's fairly easy to make money as an article marketer|When you've mastered the basic techniques, article marketing can be very profitable}.

Now let's improve on that by including the alternative phrases written to go within the first sentence variation, by nesting one set of braces inside the other:

{{Article marketing makes for easy income|There's good money to be made in article marketing|Being an article marketer is a good way to make money|Article marketing can be very lucrative} once you've learnt how to do it properly|Once you've learnt the ropes ... etc}.

I realise that might seem a bit complicated at first, but take another look. It's actually quite simple.

In addition, with the benefit of having the intended result in your head, writing and adding the pipes and braces yourself as you go along is far, far easier than trying to work backwards and make sense of what someone else has done.

Great Free Article Spinner

I had no choice but to fork out for my own article spinner software when I wanted to start spinning content. Now though, you can take advantage of a new free content spinner called Jetspinner and get the same powerful benefits I had to pay for.

Although it's is free (as I write this), Jetspinner is fully functional and usage is not at all restricted or limited. It's almost identical to -- and better than several -- other article spinners that you can buy, or pay a monthly membership to use, except that it's free. It actually has a data merge feature lacking in my own "Pro" version article spinner that sells for a shade under $100!

Something else worth noting is that the free content spinner integrates seamlessly with Jetsubmitter, an article submission engine that can automatically submit different versions of your article to around 500 article directories. Very nice.

As it's new, not many people know about Jetspinner yet. That translates into another benefit, since it puts you in the position to get ahead of 99% of your competitors (and at no cost).

But since it is the only FREE content spinner, it's fairly safe to say that eventually many people will be using it to get around duplicate content penalties. Therefore, the sooner you start using Jetspinner, the easier it will be to position yourself as an expert author in your field, because you will have much less competition using the same tactics.

At the same time you'll be generating hundreds of backlinks, but in the gradual and varied way that search engines reward you for.

The headstart you've got will make it extremely difficult for others to catch up later. You'll have more traffic generating articles and targeted backlinks out there than your competitors, which they can't add overnight without being penalized by search engines like Google and Yahoo.

There's also a bonus for the first users while the service builds a name for itself, but you can find out all about that at Jetspinner

Content Spinners You Can Buy

One last thought. If for some reason you'd actually prefer to buy a content spinner, here's a few you can take a look at: Article Uniqualizer, Artemis Pro, Content Rewriter Pro and Article Post Robot.

Article Marketing The Lazy Way

The Article Underground system offers an alternative route to successful article marketing that I'd never really gone into until now, but which some people might prefer. It requires far less time and effort, the trade off being that the cost is considerably more.

There are 2 parts to the system. Firstly you get 400 exclusive articles every month that are limited to 350 people. These aren't regular PLR stuff, but written by professionals and SEO optimized for specific keyword phrases. The keywords are selected based on profitability; that is they get high search volume, high click bids, but low competition.

Secondly, links from the Article Underground's network of high PR blogs are used to ensure your article pages rank well and get plenty of traffic. This part is ingenious, since decent links aren't easy to come by. This way you don't have to waste time and money finding directories and exchanging, or buying links.

Anyway, whether you prefer the Article Underground or Jetspinner approach to article marketing, it's worthwhile visiting the former and downloading these high quality free PDF reports, Words = Money (How to Use Articles to Build Profitable Adsense Web Sites) and "Ban Proofing Your Web Sites (to make long term money with article marketing) which include over 3 hours of video.
