Betta fish like to hide. There is nothing wrong with adding ceramic decorations to your fish tank. Betta fish like swimming in and out of little houses and castles. But avoid the temptation to decorate your aquarium with plastic plants. Many of them have sharp enough edges to damage your betta fish's delicate fins.

Real plants are beneficial to maintaining a health environment. Not only do they add a decorative element, they give your betta fish a place to hide. But the true benefits of real plants are that they eat the nitrites and ammonia that your betta produces as waste products. This makes for cleaner and clearer water and can reduce the frequency of water changes.

Betta fish are delicate creatures. Two of the most important factors in betta fish care are temperature and ph levels. Betta fish thrive in water temperature between 78 and 80 degrees. If the water temperature is too cold your betta will become sluggish and tend to stay at the bottom of the tank.

Ph levels should be somewhere between 6.8 and 7.5. Once again, having a larger tank makes it easier to maintain water temperatures and ph levels.
