This lens (web page) features some of the very best (and free!) art, photo, and clip art sites to help you make your lenses exciting, colorful, and fun.

Vote for your favorite site on the Voting Plexo below. Just scroll down a little bit and you will see the list. You can add your own favorites there, too.

I have added sparkley artwork and some moving gif sites, plus other neat art sites.

Neat photos and clip art can really help your lens stand out. Some of the very best sites such as Morguefile, the U.S. Government free photos site, Clikr, and Flickr are listed here.

On this lens, I will also explain what to look for before you upload artwork or photos. You can be sure you are following all the legal rules of each site if you read all the fine print and downloading instructions. You should read these before using their artwork.

Some sites will want you to link back to them or put the artist's name next to the art. Some only want you to use the art on your computer, and not on a website. Some sites don't care. Just be careful, so you don't violate copyright rules.

The door photo you see is by Jeltovski, who is from Canada.

NEW - here are some other great sites

Public Domain Pictures, Sparkley art, glitter art, and moving gifs!

Here is another new site. It is the Public Domain Pictures site. Here is that link: The Public Domain Pictures site. I will list it below here on the Favorites Plexo.

Some more sites I found have real PIZZAZZ. They have sparkley glittery art and moving gifs. These art pictures can be fun just to watch, or to add somewhere to your site. Here are three great sites I have found for these kinds of art.

Have you ever wondered where people get those artistic and realistic pictures they put on their MySpace accounts or decorate an email with? I think you will find some fun stuff here.

Even if you don't actually USE these, they are fun to look at. (see below)

The Public Domain Pictures site
I am just starting to explore this site. So far, it seems to have some great photographs that are colorful and big enough to use for many different pages and projects.
Glitter Graphics
It can be such fun to use sections of this site. One of my favorites is the Glitter Text Generator. Go to the left side and click on whichever section you would like to explore.

Some of the sections have a drop-down menu, where you can put a glitter sign on your MySpace page automatically. There are any different artists here who are sharing their work in exchange for a link to their websites or pages.

Attn: some of the messages say "for personal use only" - and say NOT to post to other sites. You can't use these images commercially or sell them (which is pretty much the norm). Do read the "Terms of Service" too.
Magikalgraphics.com has so many different categories, AND glitter graphics too. The work is from many different artists.
This is mostly an adult site, but does not have "x" rated graphics on it, more like pg or R. Most I would rate G rated pictures and art.

You don't have to believe in magick to use the Magkical Graphics site, but it helps!
This list from DMOZ has lots of sites on it to explore.
One of the photos following this section is from one of the people on the DMOZ list here. I hope to go to all of these sites this year and check them out. Let me know which ones you like!

This picture is from Magickal Graphics.

I love these kind of fantasy pictures!

Isn't this lovely?

Magickal Graphics also has lots of Fairy pictures!

I love Fairy pictures.

A blue Fairie

Plus there are lots more.

A cute kittie band!

I found this at one of the sites on the DMOZ list, (above) Free Cat Graphics, or NaNcY's Cat Animation Gallery

A cool cat band!

This cool cat band is from Free Cat Graphics, at http://www.cybergata.com/anim.htm, NaNcY's Cat Animation Gallery.

When you download this graphic from the site (first page), you can look at it using your browser, and the band will move around, playing the music. So cute!

Isn't he cute? This colorful man is called Joyful Man.

This art is from the i-heart-God site. It is on the voting Plexo list here on this lens. (Right below this)

A Joyful Man from the i-heart-God art website.

I have used one of the Professor clip art pictures before. This site is definitely worth looking though. There are some really cute drawings here.

Here is a photo of the U.S. Bobsled team in 2002.

I used screen capture to get this photo. It is from the Public Domain Clipart Blog.

Winter Olympic bobsled run 2002

I like the motion effect on this photo.

I could not get this PD Clipart's picture to download to my computer. Instead, I used Screen Capture (Command-Shift-4) then selected the picture area and saved the picture as a .png file. I then translated the picture to .jpg, cropped it, and uploaded it here.

I wonder if Windows computers have this same problem?

Here are some of my photos!

...and something about copyright and photo titles.

These photos are from the Museum of Appalachia in Norris, Tennessee. If you are ever in the area, I definitely recommend this place for a visit. It has houses brought in from all over all set up so you can walk to each one. When I was there, a guitar player played for us. He was in one of the pioneer houses. You can also see old-fashioned barns, dug-out root cellars, a working garden with a wood fence, beautiful pottery jugs, and many antiques.

I just put this set into the Creative Commons. To use any of these photos, just put attribution (who took the photo, etc.) on it. You can see many more of my photos on Flickr by clicking here.

Every photographer on Flickr has different copyrights on their photos. Some are completely free and you can use them any way you want. Other photos are protected completely by copyright, and you may not use their photos unless they personally okay it.

Some advice: Don't do like me and save your photos with random numbers. Give your photos a good name that matches the content of your lens. Looks like I have some work to do to fix these!

Check out the next section (scroll down just a tad). It explains how to download the very safest photos from Flickr.

Here is a Martin Luther King photo-drawing from Clkr

There are many historical and modern images at Clkr.

This is from the Clker site. The site is listed above on the Plexo voting area. It is one of my favorite clip art sites.

Here are some blogs about free clipart and photo sites and watching out for copyright.

This section of my lens updates every day.

These are blogs that talk about free clip art and photos that may be used on your lenses. Make sure to double-check the copyright on these too, of course.

A note about copyright: any original artwork is automatically copyrighted, so be sure it is OK with the artist to use his or her work on your site or project. You can also find older art and illustrations that are in the public domain, which are generally safer to use any way you want.

The link to the picture is here.

And here are some more great links.

Check them out!

The article link is really interesting. It features some other free art sites worth checking out.

Mandy also tells about what to look for when googling images.

I have shared more interesting sites on the Plexo here on this Squidoo lens after reading this helpful article. It's worth a look.

The next link tells you how to do a Google Search using a special form. The link takes you right to it.
How to find free pictures for your blog.
Mandy explains all the different kinds of Creative Commons copyrights. Each requires the art user to carefully read what can and can't be done with images from each artist or photographer.

Thanks for sharing these sites here too, Mandy!

Find images using this page. I can't wait to start using it. Thanks for this link, Mandy!

Here are Squidoo lenses that have links to free clipart and photos.

Some also include important copyright and royalty advice too.

Here are some GREAT lenses about free clipart and photo sites from my fellow Lensmasters, with thanks.

The newest one is Squid Graphics. I can't wait to put some of these on this lens.

I hope you also add your personal favorites to the comments section so I can add them here on my lens. And one caveat: Always check out your photos and art yourself, too, just to be on the safe side.

Here is a new link, part of the Squidoo Do's and Dont's.

It helps you know how to link to images.

Squidoo Do's and Dont's: What's the Deal with Coloring Pages?

This is a really neat article. It tells how to link to images, and how to do coloring pages correctly.

It's important to know this information, because you never want to post a photo, drawing, or other art without the permission of the artist that made it. Period.
What's the deal with coloring pages?
This article explains the difference between correct and incorrect linking. You can use this information to make sure that the art you use is legal and that you have dotted all your i's and crossed all your t's.

The message of this link is: do original work. And if you don't, make sure to get the permission of the artist AND do the links correctly.

I love old-fashioned designs and drawings, so this is right up my alley. There are some great designs on the internet that you can find.

Here are other Squidoo lenses.

They are about clip art, editing, and more.

I realized that people using art will also need links for editing and typography too.

So here are some great Squidoo lenses on art and photo-related topics, like taking pictures, drawing, scanning, editing photos and art, typography and fonts, and more.
