What is cloud storage?
Cloud storage means that data is stored online and that various networked servers are used for storage. These servers are managed by cloud storage providers. Providers offer different price plans for backup. Price depends on maximum space we need for storage. Almost all cloud storage providers offer free cloud storage. Free cloud storage means a limited space quota on backup servers that we can use without paying a monthly fee. Once we cross the space limit, we have to pay for extra storage space.

Advantages of cloud storage
- Cloud storage is flexible. It can accommodate as many data as we like and we only pay for space that we use.
- We do not have to buy additional hardware for external backup.
- Backup data must be maintained in sense of data replication and backup hardware maintenance. If we store our data on cloud, we are free of these tedious tasks and can focus on our business.
- We can access our saved documents everywhere regardless of our location as long as there is internet connection.
- We can access our files with various devices like desktop, laptop, tablet pc as well with smart phone.
Disadvantages of cloud storage
- There are potential concerns regarding safety of our files. After all, our sensitive data is stored at and managed by third party provider.
- Transferring speed and performance may be lower than if data would be backed up on local external device. As backup process uses internet connection for storing files, transferring speed is low in comparison to local backup.
- Availability of stored data depends on internet access. If we can not connect to internet, we can not access our backup as well.

- I prefer local backups, because you don't have to be online to see it. But on the other hand, online backups are available everywhere you can get internet connection. Cloud storage don't crash (very unlikely), local discs do.
