There are some great and free resources out there especially for seniors.

You can take classes for free, find out important information, learn things, protect yourself against viruses and malware, buy a computer, and become part of a community of other seniors just like you.

There are a lot of resources just for seniors out there. Many are free, such as Facebook and Skype.

I love free stuff, so I am sharing this information with you today.

If you are a senior, or know a senior, and like computers, this is the lens for you.

This interesting image is made to represent the internet. It is called the Classic OPTE Project Map of the Internet 2005, shared by the Source: www.opte.org/maps/. It is shared by curiouslee on Flickr.

Seniors can have so much fun with their computers.

Computing has become easier and more fun in the last 5 or 10 years too.

A senior woman enjoying her computer timeSo many more senior-friendly sites and free tutoring and classes have come about lately. Free courseware, free classes, free groups, and lots more are there for the discovering.

That makes senior computing so fun and really rewarding, too.

When I first discovered computing and being online, I used AOL. Now I use Yahoo. I remember when my computer used big floppy disks. I was not in any social groups, and mostly just played games online. Now things are so different, and much better. There are so many MORE things to do online! It's an exciting time to be a senior.

Seniors are a growing group of computer users!

Seniors want to learn, and grow. More and more information of all kinds is now available on the internet today, for free.

Here are some links I think you will enjoy a lot.

They are about learning and more - for seniors.

These links feature FREE information and sites for seniors, AND others too.
Senior Citizens Web Pointers
This website was made in Oregon, but features sites of interest to seniors across the country. Included here are links to Federal government agencies, guides, sites, search engines, hobbies, caregiving, and more.

Scroll down to find lots of links to explore.
My Betsyanne Page "For Seniors"
My "For Seniors" page features all kinds of free resources for seniors. It includes a site where you can practice your typing for free, a free Guide to Computers, a free article about Surfing Anonymously, and more free online classes seniors can take online.
Senior Resources
This page features resources for seniors from the Federal government.
The Internet Tutorials web page
This website, by Laura B. Cohen, explains just what the World Wide Web is, and helps people understand things like searching and finding scholarly content on the web.
The King County Seniors Online page
This website is published by the King County Seniors Online in Seattle, Washington. They have a Senior Center there, but also share with other Seniors free online classes and tutorial links (just scroll down to explore these). They also list free Arts and Science classes here.
Senior links at the Neptune Public Library, New Jersey
The Neptune Public library publishes this site, which lists many links about health, government services, legal and travel sites, among others. This library is located in Neptune, New Jersey.
The Wilmette, Illinois Library Sites for Seniors page
The Wilmette library site has many sites for seniors on this page, including sites of interest to grandparents and also information for seniors raising grandchildren. Their technology section (just scroll down to find it) links to some Senior websites like CyberSeniors.org and SeniorNet.

Seniors nowadays can work AND play on computers.

Here's a man who might be taking a business class.

Or this man may be talking to his grandchildren online.

With all the great resources online today, he could be doing a LOT of free, fun things.

One fun thing that is also free is Skype. If you have a camera attached to your computer, you can talk LIVE with other people using this program.

Also, more and more seniors are connecting to friends and family using that or another free social networking site, Facebook.

Does Ebay have anything fun on it today?

Let's check and see.

Ebay is a free shopping or selling site that some seniors really like.

Here are some things Ebay is offering today.

Should Seniors be Online?

Vote for one or the other.

I think all seniors can find SO many fun things to do online, and should all be looking towards going online and surfing the internet. So I think that yes, Seniors should be online.

So what do you think?

Explain your answer. I am most interested, no matter what your opinion is.

Should all Seniors be online?

YES, all seniors that can should be online. It can be so good for them!

NaturalVamp says:

Unequivocally, YES, senors have so much fun online especially with online games! And, it is quite good for them, helps them keep up their mental agility.

sousababy says:

Sure, so long as they (and everyone else) knows how to protect their identity, etc. online. Unfortunately, some very trusting souls get taken advantage of by scam artists . . my neighbor, a senior lady, who was duped for hundreds of dollars when she first began online. It makes me so angry that these cons go unpunished - but how does law enforcement ever find them? That's why everyone needs to be careful (kids to seniors).

gonzalezdenise says:

Thanks for the wonderful information.

lizziebeth says:

It's a great time to be online, for seniors and all ages. There are so many fun and free things to do there!

NO, seniors should be very cautious. Most should not be online.

Seniors might like to have a blog, too.

I have a blog. It has information about lots of things I'm interested in on it.

I like to write about many different subjects. Many seniors may like to have a blog too.

Here are some of my blog postings. This is a Blogger blog. They are free and easy to use. You just type about things you want to talk about.

I enjoyed this lens dahling. I, being of such an age as to have many friends and family who are seniors and, in fact, who play many online games, do realize that seniors can benefit much from being online and interacting with others as long as they understand the basic safety rules of the internet as do anyone, despite their age.
