Free Crochet Patterns
If you're just starting out in crocheting, you're probably excited to make all the beautiful projects pictured in all the crochet pattern books.
That can be both good and bad; good because it will keep you motivated and bad because you'll be tempted to leave your project unfinished and start another one. This will happen particularly if you're struggling with the pattern because it's just too hard to do. This is not good, because once you leave the first project, you'll be discouraged to go back and have another go at it or finish it.
So you go and buy your next book, hoping it'll be easier and before you know it, you've spent money on project books and yarn which you'll probably never use or finish because now discouragement is setting in.
Don't get me wrong, there are many great pattern books which will teach you step by step on how to crochet. It's a good idea to buy these, because then you have all the information at your fingertips when you need it.
Just don't go out and start a pattern book collection before you get the feel for what kind of patterns you like to do.
If you don't have any money, or don't want to spend on how-to crochet books or pattern books; you can find everything you need online. There are lots of free crochet patterns, and other help and training to get you get started without spending any money other than for the hooks and yarn itself.

Where To Go For Reliable Crochet Help
But when that's not possible because you simply just don't know anyone who crochets, you can resort to the internet.
There are many crochet forums where you can go and post your questions. Some of these are CrochetVille, Learn-Crochet-Now, SimplyCrochet, and a brand new forum ChrisCrossCrafts.
You can register with one or as many forums as you like. Once you're done registering, simply introduce yourself in the introduction thread and you're ready to start. Don't be afraid to jump in and start asking questions; there are many happy crocheters more than willing to help you out. What I like about these forums is that you can post pictures of your completed projects and look at other people's pictures for inspiration.
Another very good resource for helping you learn is YouTube. There you will find many crochet videos demonstrating how to do certain stitches and even how to do complete patterns. If you are totally new to crocheting I highly recommend you crochet along with some of these videos.

- I love to crochet. My favorite book on the subject is still, after all these years, The Adverturous Crocheter - I forget the author, but it taught me how to crochet using my own ideas, and it forever changed the way I looked at this amazing craft. I enjoyed reading this lens.

- Teaching a leftie to crochet is easier than teaching them how to knit...I think. Might want to put in a dual about that...maybe. Nice idea to give away a pattern or two. 5*s

- I'm so sorry your Grandmother wouldn't teach you cause you were left handed. I'm lefthanded too but my mom who was right start crocheting and looking in the mirror as she did it. The figured out how to teach me in reverse. I was about 6 year old. I have not crocheted anything in a while but I did like the dishcloth pattern above.

- When my grandmother taught my sisters how to crochet, she refused to teach me. I'm left-handed and in her book, only right-handers could read a pattern and follow it correctly. I learned to crochet last year and I love it. I'll never be as good as my sisters but its still fun.
