Free Cross Stitch Patterns Make for an Affordable New Crafting Hobby
Cross stitch can often be an expensive hobby, but it doesn't have to be! There are plenty of free cross stitch patterns on the internet and from a large variety of designers. These free cross stitch charts give you the opportunity to try a new designer's style, learn a new technique, or maybe just put together a quick gift without going on a massive chart hunt.
The butterfly cross stitch pictured here to the left is a free cross stitch pattern that I created myself using PC Stitch on my computer! It's available along with several other free stitching patterns at Stitching the Night Away.
Below you'll find a list of a handful of websites that offer free cross stitch patterns for you to download and stitch. This is just the tip of the iceberg, there are hundreds more out there to find just waiting to be stitched. And if you can't find something you like, you can always create your own and stitch those and share them with the world.
Even though all of these cross stitch patterns are downloadable for free, they are only going to save you money on the actual chart, you still need cross stitch supplies. You may just find yourself splurging on fancy threads and fabrics with the money you saved on the chart!
Here are a few more versions of the butterfly that my readers have stitched and shared with me:

Christmas Ornament Free Cross Stitch Patterns
Here's an example of Teresa Wentzler's Beginner Whitework Ornament free cross stitch pattern.
I've stitched this multiple times and every time it looks different and it always amazes me.
This one I think is my favorite version. Stitched with Silkweaver (www.silkweaver.com) Summer Fun Pack contest and is the third time I've stitched this ornament. This will be a gift come Christmas time, I think this one will be for my mother in law who loves pansy flowers, the colors make me think of pansies or even African Violets, very fun and pretty!
I've stitched this same ornament at least 5 times now and it looks different every single time I stitch it up. I've stitched it with beads and without beads, in different colors, solid colors, on plain fabric, and on hand dyed fabric. The possibilities are endless.
This is the very first time I stitched the TW Whitework ornament and I chose to go with blues and subtle hand dyed colors that matched the fabric.
I wanted to go for a whitework look without using white thread on white fabric. Whitework embroidery refers to any embroidery technique in which the stitching is the same color as the foundation fabric and is traditionally stitched on white linen.
