Got a Dog, Build a Doghouse

Your pooch needs a home just like you do. Fido's dog house will truly be a home for your new best friend. Doghouses do not need to be fancy or complex, they just need to fit the dog and keep the weather of of her.

A doghouse doesn't just provide shelter from the elements. It really does become a home for your dog. A good dog house provides comfort and feelings of safety and security for you dog.

There are lots of options to get a dog house. You could purchase one from a local craftsman, order a kit that is ready to assemble or build your own. I am a build your own kind of guy, since I love woodworking and have worked in the construction trades for years. There is no need to purchase dog house plans unless you see a plan that you just have to have. There are lots of free plans and resources on the internet. I have cataloged a few of the best here for you.

A Few Free Doghouse Plans

My dad recently acquired a new black labrador puppy. The poor little guy (the dog, not my dad) had been dumped off near his home. We live near eachother and it is a convenient place to dump dogs, so not an uncommon thing to happen. The dog was nearly starved. He didn't have the pep and playfulness that a lab puppy would typically have. He was definitly sick from lack of food and water. It was hot outside and we hadn't had any rain in some time so he couldn't even find a puddle to drink from.

We took him in to get him some food and water. By this time of the evening, the pet shelter was closed so we decided to wait a day or two to see if someone claimed him before taking him to the shelter. Well in those few days, Dad fell in love with the little guy, I grew rather fond of him too. No one claimed him and we couldn't bear to take him to the shelter at this point so it was time to get busy building a doghouse.

I searched the depths of the internet for a doghouse plan that I liked and would be appropriate for a lab. I found that there are lots of free doghouse plans but they are not well cataloged. So here are a few that I found that are easy to build.
