How to Get A Domain Name for Free and Host it For Free Too
If you want a website but don't want to pay for a domain name and a hosting plan, then you're on the right page. In this article I will show you how to get a domain name for free and host it for free too. So you can get your website online completely free.
A. Get a Domain Name (FREE)
I've found four ways to get a domain name for free. These ways are not new. They're old news, but they still work today. Two of them won't need your credit card information but the other two will, but you won't be billed and you can remove your credit card details from your account after you got your domain.If you don't have a credit card, you can use paypal plugin
to create one-time use credit card. But it is only available to US resident / US IP address. I won't recommend you to use proxy because paypal will catch you and ban your account.
1. Register.com (credit card needed, You can get a domain name free for 1 year)

- Go to this link http://www.register.com/promo/freeurl.rcmx. Type a domain name which is available and choose your desired TLD (.com/.net/.org/.us/.info), click Go. (pict)
- Make sure you choose this option "Yes, I Am a Small Business Owner", and then click "Add to Cart". (pict)
- On your cart page they will add $10 for private domain registration service, so remove that until the cart total is $0.00, then click continue. (pict1, pict2)
- Since you don't have an account so click create new account and fill in the registration form, then click continue. (pict)
- After that, fill in you credit card information and billing address, then click "Submit Order"
- You're done . You got your domain registered for free. You'll receive an email from register.com saying that your domain is ready to use.
- Just to be completely safe, go to your domain account, then go to contact information page. Remove your credit card detail. This will help you to make sure that no payment will be made at a later time.

2. Microsoft Office Live (credit card needed, You can get a domain name free for 1 year)
- Go to this link http://smallbusiness.officelive.com/Worldwide, Choose your contry, then click GO
- Click GET STARTED FREE. Sign up for MSN Office Live account then verify your email address.
- Sign in to your OfficeLive account then click "Get a Domain". (pict)
- Click "GET A CUSTOM DOMAIN" button. (pict)
- Follow the instruction (self-explanatory).
- Once your domain is registered go to your OfficeLive account to cancel your domain from OfficeLive (Relax! The domain is still yours).
- On your account click "Add/Manage services" then click "Cancel", remove and confirm remove. (cancel, remove, confirm remove)
- You will receive an email confirmation from OfficeLive. (pict)
- Go to MelbourneIT link provided on the email to unlock your domain. On MelbourneIT unlock your domain by clicking "transfer management to MelbourneIT" (pict). Now You're done (pict).
- To be completely safe, cancel your OfficeLive account. You can do it by going to Account Management page (pict). Don't worry! The domain is still yours.
3. OVH Company (No credit card needed)
OVH is an european webhosting company. Currently they're giving away domain names free for 2 years. But the TLD of the domains are specific country TLD which are .co.uk/.de/.es/.it/.nl/.pt/.pl.
Let's say we want to register a .co.uk domain name, so here are the steps:

- If your domain is available click Continue. (pict)
- Select "Yes, I want to subscribe to the Gold Offer". (pict)
- Select No Hosting. (pict)
- On the "Preview of your Order" page click continue. (pict)
- Select "New Contact" and enter your your UK mobile number. (pict)
- They will send you a 4-digit code by SMS free of charge.
- Enter that code to the website and finish the sign up
- You're done. You got your domain registered for free.

4. co.cc (No credit card needed. You will get a .co.cc domain name free for 1 year)

- Go to this link www.co.cc, type in your domain name which is available then click "check availabiltiy". (pict)
- Click "continue to registration" (pict)
- Since you don't have an account so click "Create An Account Now" down at the page. (pict)
- Fill in the registration form (pict). When you're finish you got your domain registered for free
- Setup your Domain by changing your DNS server to your free webhosting DNS server or Forward your .co.cc domain to another site. (pict)
- It will take 24 - 48 hours for your domain to be active. When it's active that means you're done.

B. How to host your site for free.
Once you got your domain name registered, now you'll need a hosting account to host your website. You don't have to pay $6 to $10 per month for a hosting plan to host your site because you can get it free.
I would recommend you to use 000webhost.com's free hosting plan. They're reliable and won't force ads to your site, so you don't have to worry your site will look ugly. They also will give you 1500 MB space and 100 GB bandwith / month, free forever.
Steps to create a free hosting account at 000webhost.com (You can also watch this video to completely understand):
- Go to this link 000webhost.com, and click Order Now at Free column.
- Type your domain name and it's TLD (.com/.net/org/etc) and fill out the form.
- You're registered. On 000webhost account you can find 000webhost's Nameservers/DNS. Now copy those servers.
- Now you're done. The next step is change your Domain's DNS/Nameservers. Read below.
Change Your Domain DNS
Here are the steps:
- When you're done with 000webhost.com, now login to your domain account where you register your domain name (Register.com, MelbourneIt, OVH, etc).
- On your domain account change the DNS/Nameserver setting of your domain with 000WebHost.com Nameservers/DNS. Every Domain registrars will provide you a tutorial to do this. Here they are: Register.com, MelbourneIT, OVH.co.uk, .co.cc
- It will take 24-72 hours for the changes to take effect.
- Once your domain is active that means you're done. You can begin to upload your website to your hosting account and get online as fast as you can.
