Free Genealogy Websites

Do I know a thing or two about free genealogy websites?

Yeah, I'd say so. My main site -- www.FreeGenealogyBooks.com -- is, as you may have guessed, one of the more popular free genealogy websites out there. (I invite you all to take a look by the way -- hint, hint).

But seriously, I do have a lot of fun putting together the stuff I find, compiling it, and then giving it away to fellow amateur genealogists hungry for information.

As they say, what goes around comes around. Maybe you'll do a good turn for me one day.

But until then, feel free to dig in to everything the exciting world of genealogy has to offer!

This is How You Can Gain Instant Access to My Free Genealogy Website

Where to Find Free Genealogy Websites

Finding genealogy websites that don't charge for access actually isn't all that hard.

But what is hard is finding ones that offer quality.

Like I mentioned above, I do have my own site with hundreds of pages of free material covering the American Revolution, Irish history, imparting a love of genealogy to your kids and more, over at www.FreeGenealogyBooks.com.

But I'm not really here to pimp my site per se. Instead, I wanted to talk about some of the other free resources you can find online. Here's just a few...

www.familysearch.org - this is the site run by the Latter-Day Saints. If you don't know why this group is famous in family tree research circles, you have some homework to do my friend. The rest of us will recognize instantly why this is an important site. Make it one of your first destinations.

www.usgenweb.com - I really like this site, which is run by a network of dedicated volunteers. It's quite an extensive organization, which "chapters" in most states and then filtering down to the county level, where you'll find USGenWeb volunteers eager to help in your genealogy projects. A unique site with a great mission and purpose.

www.rootsweb.com - This is the Internet's oldest free genealogy site, and also claims to be the largest. I'm sure other sites would dispute that, but this site is massive nonetheless. It's also supported by Ancestry.com, one of the biggest names in online genealogy research today.

So there you have it -- my top three (four, if you count mine) free genealogy websites.

These should keep you busy for at least a few months. So have at 'em!
