Might Diabetic People Have Normal Blood Sugar Levels?

What values indicate blood sugar levels within a normal range? Your blood sugar level after fasting for at least 8 hours should be between 70 and 100 milligrams per deciliter.

Levels above 100 mg/dL at any time may indicate that a pre-diabetes condition is present. If your level falls between 100 and 199, this indicates prediabetes. Diabetes (either type 1 or type 2) is likely present if your blood sugar level exceeds 200.

By following certain instructions one can easily control his/her blood sugar level. If you would like a blood sugar level closer to the norm, we suggest the following;

1. Start to slowly lower your carbohydrate consumption. If you are wondering which specific foods to eat and which to avoid, we suggest following the advice of Dr. Richard Bernstein. He has completed much sophisticated testing and removed all foods with an untraceable composition. After all, if you can't track it, you can't manage it. Low-carbohydate diets do not have to sacrifice flavor, as the meals on our diabetic recipes page demonstrate. If you follow the guidelines of a predetermined amount of carbohydrates per meal, the amount of insulin in your blood should remain at a consistent level throughout the day.

2. Your should test your blood sugar more often. We test somewhere between five and ten times each day. Although your fingers may not like it, frequent blood sugar checks are essential to maintaining an appropriate insulin level. You should be aware of your A1C. This test confirms your blood sugar levels for control of diabetes and its complications; it should stay under 6%.

3. Understanding when and how your insulin works is also important. For instance, Someone gets about two units of Regular Humalin insulin, before meals. This special insulin type is given about 40 minutes before eating, since it takes this long to start being effective. Humalog, on the other hand, should only be administered five minutes before eating because it is a faster-acting insulin. By consulting your physician or researching on your insulin yourself, you can ensure that it has enough time to start working before you sit down to a meal.

4. Limit yourself to three meals a day without snacking. The habit of snacking can be broken easily.

Complications from both types of diabetes are strongly correlated with poor management of blood sugar levels. A normal life span is possible, with hardly any complications, when you have diabetes, if you maintain your blood sugar levels as close as you can to normal.

Normal blood sugar ranges from 70 to 100 for a non-diabetic. Diabetes should not keep a person from having his blood sugar in this same range.
