Free Images Online - Tired of Searching ?

I was certainly tired of searching for free images online when I first started the hunt. The copyright issue can get so confusing, well it was for me anyway. I am now happy with the places that I can go to find images that I use on my squidoo lens and blog, it doesn't take long to find what am looking for.

In this lens we talk about the places that I go to find the free images online and how I get them onto my lens.

Free Images Online at All Posters....

...they have everything there for you

All Posters is a great place to find free images online, they have images on anything and everything for you. It is as their name suggests a site that sells Posters, they have an affiliate program which is free to join, but once you have joined you can use their images free. You do have to link back to their site though is included in the html link for you. See A few examples here (note I just picked these because they are cool, cute and rock ! :

Free Images Online - Tips for All Posters Images

Saving it to the Text Module...

The Images I have shown you above are in html format which you just copy and paste into your module - couldn't be easier. If you want to upload an image into the module, so that it appears in a nice square (I like this for the intro), then you have to do things a bit differently. Right click on the image on All Posters that you have chosen and save it to your computer. To upload it into the text or intro module, browse for it in the picture option bit below the text and click upload. The one in this section has been done that way. Now by doing it this way you will need to create a text link generator on All Posters, like this:

Buy Posters at All Posters

which you include underneath your text.

No, why would I when I can get them free

With great pics like this available why would you? I also use a lot of my own snaps but this is a great lead for all those other occasions. Thank you

No way...I love to take my own pictures, but I don't always have one that fits my lens. Free is always great!

Free is always better in this economy.

Yes, you have to pay to get good quality images

madoc says:

I am "evening up" too. I just wanted to say that I love to find good free images, but I would also like to pay for my world travels by selling my own images. Don't be silly, who'd by a picture of me? I mean pictures I take with my cell phone when I'm abroad (all I can use it for then!) Guess I'll have to limit my travels to the pub down the road! Well, there's always the Travel Channel. Hmm, free video? Now there's a thought...

susannaduffy says:

I'm voting 'yes' to even up the results. but I do buy some images. Not all, but some.

Free Images Online...

with Dreamstime...

Dreamstime is another place where I get my free images online. I joined dreamstime about a year ago. I got to use their free images for a while - I don't know the exact number that I had used when it stopped allowing me to do so, maybe 50 images or something similar.

It then required me to purchase credits to get access to the free images online. By this time I was hooked on Dreamstime, so I purchased the minimum number of credits which was $5 worth. Now I get access to all free images online there and I have 25 credits incase I wish to purchase any of the paid images - I have used 1 credit in about 6 months. To be honest, the free images there are working well enough for me at the moment, but if you do use a credit and purchase an image, then that image can be used over and over again.

Free Images Online...Common Problem

Too BIG ?

When you try to upload your images and Squidoo gives you the error message that the image is too large, it doesn't take a genius to work out that you need to make it smaller, but how ? I use Serif for all my photo editing, it's nice and easy to change the size of images, create banners etc. It's really quick too.

Where do you get Your Free Images Online ?

I am sure that there are many more out there. I know of Creative Commons, but it seems to take me ages to find a pic that I can use on there, is that just me ?

If you just want to leave a comment or feedback here, that's great too. Thanks for the visit :)

This is Great! Up to now I've got most of my images via Wikipedia and hope I've done enough attribution that I've satisfied the Creative Commons rules. I hate the way that stuff gets in the way of the flow of the lens from image to text to image...but when I search on the web for public domain images, all the hits seem to be actually on sites that are anything but free. So now I can start here!

I take a lot of my pictures and search for public domain ones on Wikipedia and government sites.

    Good advice.
when I use the all posters.com for an image it always shows too small, what am I doing wrong?
  • Wednesday_Elf Sep 20, 2010 @ 12:37 pm | delete
Thanks for the info on how to add an AllPosters picture into your Intro. I've been wondering how that was done. I've used AllPosters in other places in my lenses, but not the Intro! Appreciate it.
  • grannysage Aug 1, 2010 @ 1:15 am | delete
I use a variety of sources, including allposters and art.com. I have some of my own graphics I bought on a CD but hunting for the right one takes forever. I have a few free graphic sites I have bookmarked. And if I really like an image done by an artist. I ask permission to use it and link back to them.

I signed up for Dreamstime but haven't been able to figure out how to search the free images yet. Every time I search, I end up in the paid stuff. But it would be nice to have access to those too.
  • hayleylou Aug 1, 2010 @ 9:14 pm | delete
Hi Grannysage, thanks for your visit. In Dreamstime, there should be a tab for Free Images which if clicked will search these for you. Hope this helps :).
