Looking for Coupons?
I am an Army wife and stay at home Mom, we have a family of three and my husband's income (enlisted) has been our only source of income for 7 years now. We had to find a way to save money so that we would be able to thrive as opposed to simply surviving. Once we added coupons to our routine we began to thrive!
Although my average savings when using coupons is about 70%, I am not officially an "extreme couponer" as I have heard it defined. I never buy things that would be awkward to store, or things that we probably would not use (unless it is something I could donate). If we did not use the coupons, our monthly grocery bill would likely be around $500 (including pet care for 4 critters and the non-essentials like yummy scents).
There are a few very special sites which I trust for coupons- they all require that you download some coupon printing software (the Smartsource Java Applet). When you download the software from one site though it usually is the only one you need- there are a few that require a separate one time download though.
There are sites out there which ask you to pay a monthly fee or to pay per coupon- you will not find any of those sites listed here. I hear that those sites do offer some great deals, but I personally do not have experience with those sites, so they will not be listed here.
I sometimes buy a Sunday Paper as well, but have found that the free printable coupons work better for our needs- especially as I often find some online that I don't find in the paper. Many of the sites online DO offer the same coupons as those printed in the paper anyway!
Every coupon site listed on this page is one that I trust and have used personally. These sites do not require a paid membership, but most require you to register for free. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you find a wonderful site that should be listed here as well!

Just use whatever percentage is your BEST ever savings with coupons... this is just an informal anonymous poll, it's ok to estimate!
Know the Rules of Couponing
Different stores have different policies- you should learn them!
When you go to the store, excited that you have $300 worth of a coupon for your $290 worth of stuff.... will the store allow you to
A) Use that many coupons at once? Some stores have a coupon limit of $100 per day or transaction per customer. This means you may have to either limit the about of items you buy that trip, or you may need to divide your items into multiple separate transactions within the same trip. If you know the rule before you go it will save you (and the cashier) lots of time as those sorts of details are best figured out before you arrive at the register.
B) Allow you to get store credit or cash back for that $10 difference? Most don't, but there are a precious few who will allow cash back or store credit if you have more savings in coupons than your total.
Compare your local grocery stores- if there is one that you don't normally use because they are more expensive than another, go ahead and check their website anyway, call them or go in... find out what their coupon policy is before you try to use lots of coupons there. It will make for a much more pleasant shopping experience and if they have a great coupon policy and a sale going then you may wind up saving way more than you would have at your regular store!
Some stores allow you to stack the coupon, others do not, some stores may even refuse to take printed coupons when their policy clearly states it is ok provided the pin or dot scan is present. These are things you should be prepared for.
You should also learn how to read and understand the fine print on the coupons themselves as they often list certain restrictions that may not be blatantly obvious at first glance.

If you are looking to really get more into couponing, I strongly recommend that you set up a special, free email account for this part...
Many manufacturers offer their own special promotions and free offers and coupons. To get these special offers, you usually need to sign up for their newsletter. When I first tried signing up with a few manufacturers my inbox was flooded... but flooded with special savings announcements and coupons, announcements about new products and sweepstakes entries through their companies.
It was overwhelming at first, once I set up a separate email account for those types of offers the savings really picked up!
Some of the manufacturers will mail you a coupon book for the year, some will email you a coupon once a month, others weekly! It really is worth the effort of signing up as it saves you having to look for their promotions, they come to you!

Online you can find free Printable Coupons and Coupon Codes
Yes- you CAN use coupons when shopping online!
Just below this text area you will see that I have separated the two categories to make it easier for you to get what you need quickly.
If you are new to coupons, an online coupon code is a code that you enter at the checkout when shopping online to get a discount. These coupon codes can yield tremendous savings! As an example of how to make these codes really work for you... when I was shopping for a new twin sized bed for my son we went to several furniture stores and tested them out. We found a great bed, but it was $699. We wrote down the brand and model number and hopped online.
We found that exact bed for sale at a reputable, national store (which also sells other things aside from furniture) -their regular price was $649- it was on sale for $499. I hunted and hunted for a coupon code. I found a coupon code for 30% off. I found a $30 gift card that they had given me in the store when I bought a qualifying item the previous month and another coupon code for free shipping. In all, I paid only $319.30 for a $699 bed!
Online coupon codes can be found for many, many big ticket items so it is always worth doing some research before grabbing the item at a physical store! Clothes, toys, baby stuff and electronics have lots of online coupon codes available.... if you know where to look!
Printable Coupons are coupons that you can print out at home for the products that you would use. This produces less waste than going out and finding many different papers, but it is good to check out the papers as well! I use printable coupons for every single shopping trip that I go on and save money on things from food and drinks to hair dye and razors and toothpaste and treats for the dogs!
What about the cost of ink? Well, check out the manufacturer of your printer. Many printer manufacturers offer coupon codes and loyalty discounts as well as free shipping on ink through their website! I pay next to nothing because of the loyalty discount and gift certificates that they give me every time I go to refill- check out your manufacturer to see if they offer anything like that!

Get Organized!
Keeping your coupons organized REALLY makes the process easier and can increase your savings!
When I first stared couponing, I had a drawer with coupons and an envelope. Many, many trips to the store resulted in far less savings than it should have because I would leave a few important coupons at home, or I had a massive wad of them crammed into that envelope where I could not even find them before getting to the register. Eventually I got a small coupon organizer which helped tremendously!
Over time, as I got better at couponing, I got a slightly larger organizer and just recently, I made a big binder with clear pockets for all of the coupons.... I personally work better if I can see the coupons in the organizer, but many people do better with the file type of organizer... it really comes down to personal preference.

I do not like to spend a lot of time in the grocery store at all, to speed things up (a lot) I use the binder system and with it, I have organized everything into a very simple color coded system. The system is so easy that my child and husband are both able to use it with out instruction. I use clear colored dividers, for example my food section is yellow. Frozen foods are in the organizing pouches with a light yellow sticker, canned have a slightly darker yellow, dry have darker still. The varying shades of the colors help because I made shopping lists that are also color coded to match. The list took about 20 minutes to throw together in word and I print them out as I need them- you can simply write what you need in the shaded area that matches it's product type/ store section. On the list, whatever color highlights the product shows you exactly which page to find the coupon on. I us two stores for most of my shopping and store specific coupons for one store go on the left page while the other store's go on the right.
Whatever you do to organize your coupons, be sure that it is a system that YOU like and find easy to use!

- Using online coupons is great! I've saved a lot that way. I use Retailmenot.com with considerable success. Will try the other online coupon sites you mentioned. Thanks! I also sign up for the different stores' newsletters, which tell me about special offers and give discount codes.
