Father's Day in the US

Father's Day 2012 in the US is June 17. Have you already gotten your dad a card or present? Are you running behind trying to find something appropriate for Dad?

Are you running low on funds?

In this lens we will take a look at some options for cards and other gifts.

Father's Day Printable Cards?

Now I know this doesn't sound like the "classiest" way to give a card, but actually there are some great resources out there.

Now my dad likes funny cards, heart warming cards and pretty much anything that has his name on it. To him, it's the thought. The fact that someone thought of him really makes him feel special. It's not just addressed to Mr and Mrs...it says "Dad".

You see, dad's are special. Whether he's your biological dad, adopted dad, or step-dad, if his name is "Dad", he's a pretty neat guy, huh?

I have found a great place to get those cards at the last minute where you can customize with a picture from your pc and have them printed and mailed for you for WAAAY less than that mall store. Photo cards, holiday cards, and custom greeting cards at Cardstore.com

A Little Background On Father's Day

Info from Wikipedia:

Father's Day is a celebration inaugurated in the early twentieth century to complement Mother's Day in celebrating fatherhood and male parenting, and to honor and commemorate fathers and forefathers. Father's Day is celebrated on a variety of dates worldwide and typically involves gift-giving, and special dinners to fathers and family-oriented activities. In 2010, it will be celebrated on June 20 in many countries.

The first observance of Father's Day is believed to have been held on July 5, 1908 in a church located in Fairmont, West Virginia, by Dr. Robert Webb of West Virginia at the Central United Methodist Church of Fairmont.

Mrs. Sonora Smart Dodd of Washington thought independently of the holiday one Sunday in 1909 while listening to a Mother's Day sermon at the Central Methodist Episcopal Church at Spokane, and she arranged a tribute for her father in June 19, 1910. She was the first to solicit the idea of having an official Father's Day observance to honor all fathers.

A bill was introduced in 1913, US President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea in 1924, and a national committee was formed in the 1930s by trade groups in order to legitimize the holiday.
