Kids with Autism and other special needs often need extra practice at home.
No matter how bright the child is, sensory challenges in the classroom, different formats of individual assignments and language delays interfere with academics. The child may be perfectly capable of doing the work, yet they start to fall behind after struggling with one section or topic which then triggers a snowball effect, delaying them in other areas as well.
It may be possible to save them the struggle by keeping up with the teachers so you know what to practice at home, asking the teacher for additional worksheets each week (sometimes if you provide lined paper, the child uses that at school and brings home the original, this way they do the same work twice).
You can look at worksheets that the teacher gives them and create your own in a similar style. There are also LOTS of free printable worksheets available online- use them to help your child with special needs keep on target academically, to work on fine motor skills or to further develop language. They are also great to use over the summer and other breaks to prevent learning loss!

I have personally visited every single site listed below- some may require registration. I am VERY picky about which sites I include here. I prefer sites run by teachers or former teachers, and that offer free worksheets.
Because I use so many free printables for my son, I have started posting the sites that I use and trust the most online. I do offer my own free printables on all of my articles about free printables, but since I am NOT a licensed teacher, I have limited my own free printables here to award certificates and writing practice pages (which are free for you to print and enjoy if you like them).
You are invited to use the links I have provided below, anything that is not free will be grouped together and clearly marked. Please remember that if you search online for "free printable worksheets" you will find TONS, but some of those links will pop up boxes saying that you are being hacked, windows detected a security problem (even on a Mac) or that your PC is infected- if you see any of those messages, force quit or use task manager to close- following the on-screen instructions causes MORE of the windows to open.

FREE Printable Handwriting and other fine motor
Proper letter formation is often a challenge for kids with Sensory issues effecting proprioception
If your child has extreme difficulty with letter formation, talk to their OT about adding a pencil weight to help them and then gradually reduce the weight!

FREE printable Language Arts
Language Arts is essential!
Kids with autism often struggle with language arts so I often print 2 or 3 copies of each worksheet and then have my child do it once, and then repeat the same worksheet one week later, and then again a week after that. There are plenty of other worksheets done in between though to prevent him from applying any rules about pattern on the page to ALL work!

My son does well with free printables
but alone, they just aren't enough
You have to help the child understand what they are learning. They may appear to understand more than they do so you should take some time to ask them comprehension questions and inference. Kids with Autism can have extreme difficulty with inference as the disorder typically causes them to think literally.
If you do not know how to evaluate your child's level of understanding, there are many ways you can learn- free resources specifically aimed at helping parents evaluate a child's understanding are available online. You can ask your child's teacher to give you examples. You can even get software to help!!!!
My personal favorites are the software and the online games like these Fun & Engaging Games for Kids 2-6

Learn Anytime, Any place!
I keep a three ring binder filled with easy and fun free printable worksheets and a few general workbooks, and some colored pencils in a tote bag in the car! This way, if we have anything unexpected happen (like last week when the alternator died and we spent a few hours in a parking lot) then not only will my son be occupied, but he will be reinforcing what he has already learned!
The tote bag also comes in really handy for long waits at the doctor's office and long car rides!
