Scoop Up Some Free Rosh Hashana Images

Rosh Hashana is the holiday that marks the New Year on the Jewish calendar. The name of the holiday literally means "Head of the Year." This year, the holiday falls on September 8 (beginning at sundown) and continues until September 10 at sundown.

This lens offers free graphic images, backgrounds, and animations keyed to this holiday theme. If you're planning a lens on the subject and are looking for some embellishment, I offer these doodads for you to use. There are no strings on them, but I'd love to see how you use the images, if you are able to leave a link..

Note: Several of these images are appropriate for Yom Kippur, Simchat Torah, and Succot also.

Serve Your Honey in Style

Honey is a traditional part of Rosh Hashan. Dipping apples in honey signifies the wish for a sweet new year. If you put it out, they will dip.

Apples the Easy Way

A really great kitchen tool that even the kids can use.

Pinzon Apple and Potato Peeler, Corer, and Slicer

Amazon Price: (as of 05/30/2012)Buy Now

This apple corer and peeler is a brilliant idea. I own it and have given it as gifts many times and it's always a hit. Not only does it make fast work of peeling and slicing apples, it's fun to do, and ther are no skinned fingers, tired hands, or wasted apple. Perfect for Rosh Hashana gatherings: all the slices you want for dipping in honey or for making apple cake. Not to mention apple pie... Also great for quick, healthy snacks for the kids. In fact, let them do the peeling (it's easy and fun); they'll be more interested in eating the result! Such a bargain.

Not Exactly Same Time Next Year

The holiday, which marks the Jewish New Year, begins at sundown on September 16, 2012; the first full day is September 17. All Jewish holidays begin and end at sundown. For this reason, there is almost always some confusion about whether the dates marked on standard calendars represent the day on which the holiday begins (at sundown) as is correct, or whether they recognize the first "daylight" day of the holiday. Some get it right; others don't. Note: this countdown doesn't go to the actual hour -- it goes to 12:01 am on the 16th but the holiday begins later that day, at sundown. Also note that this countdown is for East Coast U.S. time.

Assorted Rosh Hashana Backgrounds

Free, Of Course

This is an example of a paragraph with a long, narrow background image that tiles vertically. The padding is set to be even all the way around. I used 30px here. With a darker image, you might want to change the text to bold and enlarge it, or make the text color white.)

Note: For a superb tutorial on using background images in boxes (plus much, much more), please visit Make a Fancy Table of Contents by Greekgeek.

This is a test for paragraphs with images behind them. This one has a left border. NOTE: The width of the left padding will vary according to the width of the left-side design. The left padding here is set to 175px. It would be possible to float a graphic in the left border.

This is a small paragraph box with an image background. This background is an all-over tiled design. The padding is set to be even all the way around. It uses the float-left command to push it to the left margin.

What the heck -- I'll show a couple more in action. Another tiled background. The padding is set to be even all the way around. It uses the float-left command to push it to the left margin.

Squid Angel Thumbs Up. Since the new Monsters started on Rosh Hashana, I have been wondering if that makes them Jewish ;-) Of course, I feel silly typing "cownerd" as my security word as I bless your lens.
