Free List Of Companies Hiring Mystery Shoppers

Don't pay for a mystery shopping company list when you can get it here for free!

If you are looking for a free list of companies hiring mystery shoppers then you have come to the right place. Have you ever wanted to try mystery shopping but did not know where to start?

Or perhaps you went to a website that wanted to charge you for the privilege of using their site to contact mystery shopping companies.

(Yeah, I fell for that)

I got tired of seeing these "companies" take advantage of people who are trying to earn an extra few dollars, so I decided to create a free secret shoppers list containing 190 business that hire mystery shoppers.

This free list of companies hiring mystery shoppers should keep you busy for awhile, but I will be updating this directory as I come across other companies that want to hire shoppers.

I hope that you find this mystery shoppers list useful and that it helps you to become a successful secret shopper.

What is Mystery Shopping?

What is Mystery Shopping?Mystery shopping is a phrase which refers to the procedure for assessing the overall performance and is an evaluation of an employee from the point of view of an everyday informed shopper.

Educated mystery shoppers pretend to be prospective customers to be able to provide organizations with an unbiased view of their customer service and determine how accurately workers are adopting the instructions that have been given to them.

The member of staff is completely unaware of the mystery shopper's true goals and therefore the sales rep offers them exactly the same service they provide to the greater part of their potential customers.

Typically the mystery shopper will be able to complete a customized survey and write an in depth written review regarding the overall shopping experience, enabling the boss to better be informed of the way the common consumer is being serviced.

This allows the boss and their personnel the chance to improve and move forward. Mystery shopping is definitely the only efficient solution to objectively appraise the performance and longevity of a organization's customer support experiences and training programs.

Before You Start Mystery Shopping

Things you should know about the companies on this list

Some mystery shopping companies do not openly advertise themselves as secret shopping companies. They prefer to call their shoppers an evaluator, analyst, assessor or even Business Development Associate.

This is to prevent just anyone from finding them using common keywords and pestering them with applications that they will just give up on or not follow through with.

Also, doesn't calling yourself a business development associate sound so much better than mystery shopper? Much more professional.

Some secret shopper companies will not advertise about mystery shopping on their homepage. Their thinking is that if a potential employee cannot be bothered to go past their home page, it is probably not someone that they would want to hire.

If you do not see "Mystery Shopper Apply Here" when you first visit a website, this is the reason.

Just explore the site a little bit and you will find what you are looking for. Look for headings titled Employment Opportunities, Careers, Jobs and other such names.

These companies sometimes represent muli-million dollar companies and want professionals that can be counted on. If you know the lingo, have decent English writing skills and you are serious about becoming a secret shopper, you are already half-way there.

I would also like to take this opportunity to state for the record that I am in No Way affiliated at all with any of these mystery shopping companies. I make no money (0 dollars) when you sign up with these secret shopping companies.

Like I said, information about jobs should be given out for free, not sold.

While you are not mystery shopping

Try doing surveys

Try surveys wheile you are not mystery shoppingIt is safe to say that doing surveys and mystery shopping go hand in hand. Being a mystery shopper alone will not earn you a ton of money. You can increase your internet revenue simply by sharing your thoughts and opinions about products you use at home.

There are many survey companies that are scams and are only out for your information. These following survey companies are here because I have received payment from them.

There are several other companies that I am currently involved with, but I have not yet reached their payment threshold. I will add them as I get my first payment from them.

Secret Shoppers List Bonus Tip #1

Use The Phone Book

In almost every city, there are mystery shopping companies right down the street from you that are looking to hire new employees. The problem is in finding them. They don't openly advertise their services in order to keep some form privacy for their clients. The following ideas may help you find additional secret shopping opportunities in your city. Use these tips along with this free secret shoppers list in order to maximize your earning potential.

Depending on the size of the city or town that you live in, there may be mystery shopping companies in your local Yellow Pages. If you live in a large city, (New York) mystery shopping companies can be found in the phone book. They are not so concerned with privacy as there are tons of companies offering the same services. Search listings under Personal Shopper, Secret Shopping, Mystery Shopping, Market Research, Employee Evaluators, Business Analysts. Create your own shoppers list.

If you live in a small town, use the online Yellow Pages and look up the same headings in any larger city that is close by. Even small businesses need secret shoppers and your local businesses will more than likely use these companies.

When you find the companies, give them a call and ask them if they hire mystery shoppers. The worst they can say is no, right? That phone call will only have cost you two minutes of your time. If, however, they do hire mystery shoppers, then you just made yourself a new contact that may potentially provide you with a steady stream of employment opportunities.

Shoppers List Bonus Tip #2

Unexpected Or Hidden Resources

Double check your bills as they arrive in the mail. There may be some good news. Big businesses like banks and department stores have started putting toll-free phone numbers on their bills to find current customers who wish to do mystery shopping jobs.

You could always approach local advertising agencies. Some advertising agencies use mystery shoppers to determine which retailers they want to use for special promotions. Quite often they only use "friends of friends" because they are concerned about confidentiality. The key to success with the obtaining mystery shopping work with an ad agency is to respect for the client's confidentiality, enthusiasm about the project, and returning the evaluation forms in a timely manner.

Or, keep your eye open when you go to amusement parks, arcades, restaurants and movie theaters. Some people have found regular mystery shopping jobs by noticing a poster, comment card or even a line on the bill that says this restaurant, theater or park is looking for mystery shoppers.

Shoppers List Bonus Tip #3

Start your own mystery shopping company

This definitely is not for everyone but, if you are going to do this, do it right. Start by contacting your government and obtaining a business license. It took me 15 minutes on the phone with a very nice lady and I was set. After you obtain this license, companies will be able to legally hire you to do secret shops, just as they do with the other secret shopping companies listed on this free shoppers list.

What is the main benefit to doing this? You will not have anybody dipping their fingers into your pie, meaning more profit for you. Remember, those mainstream secret shopper companies are the ones who contract you, and therefore take a portion of the fee paid by the client. (Quite a large portion of it actually)

Because you are self-employed, you will be able to set your own rates. Charge less than the mainstream secret shopping companies, provide excellent quality reports and you will have jobs in no time.

The toughest contact will be your first. Use the Yellow Pages to find potential clients, or approach local businesses in person. Let them know what services you provide and what you expect to be paid. Maybe make up a promotional flier or sample form and mail it to the business in a sealed envelope. If you visit a potential contact in person, under no circumstance let an employee know what you are doing there.

The boss will not like it and probably will not contact you.

How Mystery Shopping Scams Work

and what you can do to protect yourself

Whether it's a job, loan, grant, sweepstakes or lottery, do not fall for "paid in advance" scams. All of these scams work the same way: The bad guy will send an unsuspecting victim a check, which is counterfeit or stolen. They request that the victim deposit the cheque in their bank account and then forward a portion of it to the person or company while being told to keep some for payment in advance for work to be completed. The victim does not find out that the check is fraudulent until after the payment has been sent.

Although the funds from a deposited check may be available for use within one to five business days of deposit, it can take several weeks for the bank to determine that the check is counterfeit or otherwise invalid. Instructions to draw money on checks shortly after they have been deposited may be the work of unscrupulous people trying to take advantage of this technicality.

Once the scam artist receives the money, you will never hear from them again.

Never wire-transfer money to any unknown person with whom you have never had personal contact and always check with the BBB before doing business with any online company.

I registered to become part of a focus group in S. Florida from an ad on Craigs list. Days later I received an e-mail from a James Martins in care of a company called People Business Edge Secret Shopper asking me to re-register for the same ad as a secret shopper. They will send me a check to cash and instructions to evaluate certain companies. Have you ever heard of this company and what do you think of this scenario?

    Hi John,

I tried to find anything to do with a company called People Business Edge Secret Shopper and could not find a single thing about them. Not one website, review or news press release about them. Mystery shopping companies will always have a website and reviews from people who have been paid or scammed from them.

I advise extreme caution with this one.

Like I mentioned to Regina, secret shopping companies will never pay you in advance and it will never be for large amounts. With any legitimate company you will have to do the work first then you get paid for the work you have completed. Mystery shopping jobs do not pay in advance. This way they cover their own butts and do not get scammed by people who would take the money and run.

My advice is to tear up any cheque they send you or turn it in to the police. The only person who benefits from mystery shopping scams would be the person who sent out the cheque.

    Hope this helps :)

    Regina,

Hello there and thank you for posting your comment. I would absolutely recommended NOT attempting to cash that cheque. I will say with no uncertain terms that the cheque you received was not for mystery shopping and is a scam.

Did the cheque come with a note saying something to the effect of "Please cash this cheque and send most of it to such and such an address and you keep some for you services"?

No business person in their right mind would send some stranger a cheque for that amount and pray that that person sent them their money. Business Suicide :)

If that cheque is cashed you will have to pay the money back to the bank (since the money would have been drawn from your account) and have some very stern conversations with the police.

Best idea (in my opinion) is to take the cheque to your local police department. Perhaps they could lay down some trap to catch this person when they try to pick up the money.

    Hi there MridupabanKalita,

I am sorry to say that these companies focus on hiring mystery shoppers in North America.

However, I have found you a couple of companies that focus in the India market. Hope this gets you at least started.

As sort of a disclaimer for myself, I dont know anything about these companies. I found them using common keywords just like I did building this free list of companies hiring mystery shoppers in North America, but they at least look legit.

    DQS India www.dqsindia.com
    Grassroots India www.grassrootsindia.in
AQ Services Internatinal (India subsidiary) www.aq-services.com
    Shopmax www.shopmax.in
    Bare Associates India www.bareinternational.com

The last one is international, not just in India

I worked with A Closer Look in the past. They are good folks. They do want a lot for the money, however. In the end, my husband and I decided we'd rather just pay for our food lol

Thanks for going to all the work of putting this together and putting it out for free...really free. So many sites claimed to be free but 20 or 30 minutes into their spiel, Wham...they hit you with some bogus charge. Then I'm forced to take another 20 minutes to berate them for being lying, greedy bastards.

I have been a mystery shopper for a couple of months now and I was surprised at how easy it is. I live in the middle of no where in Montana and have to travel 60 miles to the nearest Walmart - but when I mystery shop I consider that the mystery shop is paying for my other errands and sometimes free pizza! (once I secret shopped a pizza chain)
