My journey to Giant Squid 100

Hi, fellow Squidooers!

Welcome to Squidoo Secrets II. I am so glad you are visiting today.

This lens continues where my first lens, Squidoo Secrets, left off. It is all about my new journey towards Giant 100 on Squidoo.

Getting to Giant 100 means that I will need to have 100 quality lenses. I am working on it!

I figure it will probably take one to two years to get to Giant Squid 100. You can follow my journey and get tips right here on this lens.

My Squidoo Liz blog

Get tips and discoveries on my journey towards Squid 100.

These are postings from my Squidoo Liz blog. I started it while I was doing my Squidoo Secrets (I) lens. I like having a lens about Squidoo and what I am learning. It also helps me to learn about how to use a WordPress blog. My other blogs are Blogger blogs.

So... what should I start with?

What lenses will I do?

A beautiful Christmastime decorated street at nightI think I will try to do some nontraditional student lenses, some travel lenses, and maybe a photography lens. Of course, I may change my mind later on.

My goal is to do one new lens each week. That puts my "Giant 100" goal to be sometime (hopefully!) in 2012.

This neat picture of Christmas decorations is by Shiny Things on Flickr.

I also want to learn more about YOU, my reader.

Are you on Squidoo?

The thinker with light bulb

Are you trying for Giant Squid? Squid 100? Are you trying to make your second lens? Or maybe you have not joined the site (yet)... Let me know by answering the poll below.

My re-application journey went great.

I am now a Giant Squid again. Yay!

April, 2011

Here's what I did this month.

Spring Crocuses by Normanack on Flickr#1. I made Giant Squid! and have 50 lenses. This lens another "Squidoo Secrets" lens that talks about going for Squid 100. I will list here all the sites, information, and plans I have to make Squid 100 by 2012.

My plan is to do one lens a week for a year, then keep it up in 2012.

I also want to make more friends here on Squidoo, and learn from them.

I also want to help others with their Squidoo lenses by going to the SquidU site and answering questions more, leaving comments more, and doing more critiques.

April 20th: I discovered EelKat's lens, EelKat's Secrets to Squidoo Success. I plan to delve into this lens, because EelKat has a Zazzle store. She writes that she makes $40 - $120 a month from it. I like this idea, so I will be learning more about it. I have thought about it before, but haven't actually done it. So... now this is one of my goals.

This beautiful flower photo is by normanack on Flickr.

April 26: I found a glitch on this lens and on a couple more at least tonight. Some of the photos or artwork is not showing! So I reported this as a bug to Squidoo's powers that be.

Luckily, I had been on SquidU too, and some other lensmasters were talking about this glitch. They said that they used edit - save as draft - then published their lens again and voila! The pictures were back! It has worked for me, so I'm glad about that. I will have to check all my lenses though. They don't look as good without their clipart or photos.

May 2011

Writing lenses... and making comments.

(Again, this posting was made BEFORE my Squidoo Giant Squid status was changed to NOT being a Giant Squid. I reapplied at the end of June.)

This month I have made a couple of lenses... then I started just making comments in the Squidoo SquidU discussion boards.

I talk about it in my latest blog posting, Treading water with Squidoo - - how I keep active there. I will put my blog below here to check out.

Next week I hope to make another full lens. I have not picked out the subject yet, but it will be something I can write AND learn from.

June 2011

This is when I found out some of the Squidoo changes.

It was so shocking when I found out that I was no longer a Giant Squid. AND I no longer had a Fan Club either. Ack!

I found out about the Fan Club change first. It was pretty long after the Fan Club had disappeared from my pages. I was not sure what to do about that. I went to try to find out who my old fan club members were. I could not find them. I wish I could! I had an idea I could maybe do a Fan Page blog, but so far I haven't.

I have been to several blogs about Squidoo this month and mostly have been at SquidU, trying to find out what other Giant Squids think about the changes. Will it take a long time to make the changes? I don't know. Has anyone re-applied and been approved? I can't find out yet. I next will probably go to see old Giant Squid people and see if they have had their Giant Squid status taken away or not.

Right now, I don't have my sticker, and I don't have any of the Giant Squid extras I was awarded in April. :-( I did like those! But I did get to try them out twice. I am hopeful that once my name comes up on the re-application list, things will change.

I will definitely be back here to let everyone know what I find out. I do know that people can try to find out their old Fan Page (maybe!) by going to see what their pages USED to look like at the Internet Archive (once known as the Wayback Machine.) This site is so cool. If you haven't tried it out (and you can try it out with many different sites) you will want to.

My jobs now: I need to edit EVERY ONE of my 52 lenses, take OFF my Fan Club mentions and update them too. I also will make double sure that every piece of art has a link to where I got it. Then hopefully I can start making new lenses from there. I will be working hard, but it will be worth it.

LATEST THIS MONTH: I am BACK as a Giant Squid 50. I also got a Squid 25 badge. This is great. I was so worried, but now I'm not.

July 2011

I am very happy about achieving Giant Squid last month.

It was faster than I thought.

Part of the perks of becoming a Giant 50 is that one of my lenses will receive a Purple Star. I have not found this lens yet, but when I do I will definitely BRAG about it!

I did publish another lens. It is called "Do I Have Too Many Blogs?" So far I have only had one comment on it, but it was positive. My visitor thought as long as I enjoyed doing them, I should keep the blogs. I will see what others think.

August 2011

Another hint I am using...

I decided to update my lenses at LEAST twice a month. I think it is really making a difference. And I've picked "My Fan Club" as the next lens I will do this month. Although I have slowed down a tad, I am still going to the Squidoo Forum every day as often as possible, and commenting or helping at least three times there. I think that really helps too. Later!

September 2011 - May 2012

I kept my blog going, and updated my lenses.

I have been updating my lenses each month. This did help me a lot with keeping some of my lenses up in the ratings.

I tried RocketMoms out again, and liked it. Then the group disbanded. Ouch. But I joined another one for a few weeks, then quit it. It just wasn't the same as RocketMoms, which I liked a lot.

I HAVE been updating my Squidoo blog though. You can read the postings right after this.

MAY: I decided to write more on Squidoo and have a few mentors I will share with you next month.

Here is my blog, Lizziebeth on Squidoo

Come and visit!

I am starting to write more here on my blog. I will have tips, links, and more here.

Also, I will update what I am doing there too, and link back and forth from here.

A Giant Squid queen with a squiddie crown

Ah - to have a Giant Squid 100 Crown!

I will be working hard.

And hope to meet you too.

A medium purple squid. If I have not met you yet, give me a holler! You can email me from this page, or leave a comment too. I would love to go check out your lenses too.

The cute Squid Queen with crown (above) is from the Microsoft Clipart pages.

I changed it a bit, added the background, and added the Squid (from there too) which I think looks great on the Squid Queen's crown.

The purple Giant Squid (to the right) is from the free Clker art site.

Things to get me motivated

When I succeed online, maybe I can get one of these!

These are things I like on Ebay. I just enjoy thinking about them. They motivate me. Maybe adding Squid 100 to my resume, I will learn more about everything online and be able to dream even more.

I have the keywords "antique jewelry" here to see what is available. I can't wait to check these out.

The next year will be a busy one.

And I plan to get to know more people here on Squidoo, too.

Old-fashioned angel childrenI like being on Squidoo. I have met some wonderful people here, and look forward to meeting even more this year.

I am also thinking of being an Angel sometime in 2012. It seems like a lot of fun.

These cute angel children are from the Microsoft Clip Art pages.

And thanks for visiting!

You made my day.

Here is a question. Should all lensmasters go for Squid 100?

What do YOU think?

Well? Should all lensmasters try to go for Giant Squid?

Should all lensmasters on Squidoo try to go for Giant 100 Squid?

No, everyone should not go for that. Some people enjoy doing less, some more.

TheLifestyleChanger says:

There needs to be a balance, as in life. It would be dull if we were all the same and scary if there were no leaders.

bhthanks says:

it depends on the person's goals

pimbels says:

Only if they wish to.

iSandy says:

Not everyone has the time or interest to aim for 100. My short term goal is 50, then maybe 100. Wish me luck!

JoanneOtt says:

Only if it's something they really want to do.

Yes, I think everyone should try for that because it's a fun or worthy goal.

gamesngames says:

ya everyone should

gyo_art_fashion says:

Certainly! Always strive to be the best at whatever you do, & never accept anything less of it from yourself :-)...

bikerministry says:

It's becoming a goal for me. Right now of my 45 lenses I'm trying to get 25 of them to be top quality enough to apply for Giant Squid 25. This was very informative. Thanks.

radkenz says:

yes, i want it

mayapearl says:

Well whatever floats your boat, I want to keep going as long as I have fun with it.

I have 53 lenses and am reviewing each one and making revisions until I have 25 finished. Then I'm going to submit to be a Giant Squid. Then I'll keep working on the rest of the lenses and if approved for a 25 lens Giant, I'll apply to be a 50 Lens Giant. Then, like you, my goal will be to create one new lens each week through 2012.
