Free Standing Pull Up Bars

If you have recently began exercising from home, there is a really good chance that you may begin looking into purchasing a free standing pull up bar. After doing tons of research, I want to tell you exactly what I know about free standing pull up bars.

Of course, my opinion is not the only opinion that matters. For that reason, I have gone ahead and placed relevant links to related websites throughout this article. I'm going to stress that these links are only in place to support you in making a purchasing decision. Again, you can get most of the information you need to know by simply reading over this page, although the external links will be beneficial.

Table of Contents

Folks, I really tried to go above and beyond when creating this article. I think it took me a full 2 hours to create. Feel free to look it over, and leave any comments at the end. I hope this article is a breath of fresh air. :-)

How Much Are You Willing To Spend?

If you like taking polls, feel free to take the one below.

I wanted to create this poll more for you, along with the companies who are selling free standing pull up bars. Maybe some companies have their products placed at too high of a price, right?

So maybe if they see that you're only willing to pay let's say, $150.00 for a free standing pull up bar, then maybe they will lower their price?

I guess I am also kind of curious to see how much you're willing to spend on a fine piece of home exercise equipment. ;-)

TrapezeRigging.com

Before we begin looking at the positives and negatives of using a free standing pull up bar, let's first take a look at the website TrapezeRigging.com. If you performed the Google Search: "Free Standing Pull Up Bar," there is a good chance that you have come across the website TrapezeRigging.com

Now, before I say anything about this website, you should know that I have not used their product.

The reason I mention this product, is because it does rank really well within the Google search results. Now, you may have thought about purchasing this pull up bar, but couldn't come to it because, if you're anything like me, you like to read product reviews before making a purchase.

Luckily for us, TrapezeRigging.com's pull up bar is on Amazon. You can then read the customer reviews by clicking here.

Tip For Finding Low Prices

Before I jump into thing to quickly, you should know that Google has this awesome Shopping feature. I guess you could call it, Google Shopping.

The cool thing about Google Shopping is that you can actually perform a search for a product, and then compare the prices of the same products, or similar products, between one site and the next.

Although Google Shopping is a great way to get good deals, I always recommend heading over to the Better Business Bureau just to be certain that you're dealing with a legitimate website.

Before I buy anything from a relatively unknown online dealer, I like to always make sure that they have an "A Rating" by the BBB, at the least. If the site you're looking at does not have an "A Rating" or greater, it's sometimes best to pay the extra money, to avoid any problems.

Recommended Websites

Lately, there has been some good information on the web, because home gyms are becoming more and more popular. As we all know, the more people want to know about something, the more that will be written about that something. That's basic supply & demand.

Of course, there are many websites that are simply putting up gateway affiliate pages, with little to no quality information, in a lame attempt to make a commission.

With that being said, I wanted to share with you some websites that I found beneficial.

1. Amazon - Free Standing Pull Up Bars (Search.) - Really, Amazon is good with almost any product you're going to buy. I will often use Amazon to look at star ratings and product reviews before purchasing anything. Usually, the reviews are pretty accurate, so I would definitely recommend checking them out.

2. Bright Hub - Quality - Benefits & Disadvantages. Mainly, I liked this article because it talked about the benefits and disadvantages of using a free standing pull up bar. In this article, there are some good facts that I would have never even though of.

3. Crossfit - Building a Free Standing Pull Up Bar.. This is more for those of you who are looking to build a free standing pull up bar. This is probably the most comprehensive guide that I have seen available. Of course, you're always risking hurting yourself with a product you built, but I figured I would let you guys know this page was available. I found buried within the Google search results, and I thought that you guys may be interested in checking it out.

4. DoStrong.com - Free Standing Pull Up Bars. I'm not going to lie, folks. This is actually my own website. It actually goes into great detail about free standing pull up bars, the positives, negatives, what to look for when making a purchase, along with my final purchase recommendation. Although this page does contain affiliate links, with 1356 words of content, you will see that my article is full of great information.

Homemade Free Standing Pull Up Bar

To be honest, I would hope that this video does not relate to the link that I posted to above, to the Cross Fit website, but I don't think it does.

Actually though, according to the guy who made the bar, it was actually pretty stable, holding his weight of 340 pounds. That's pretty amazing actually. He said that he only spent >$50.00 building this, so maybe it's something worth trying... if you're a good builder that is.

Of course, it's always better to be safe than sorry, so if you really don't know what you're doing, then you may want to steer clear of this idea.

Positives

Alright, now that you already have a great list of resources to look though (listed above), I would like to now take the time to discuss with you the advantages of purchasing a free standing pull up bar.

Multiple Machines in One: Unlike your basic wall or door mounted pull up bar, you will notice that with a free standing pull up bar, you're usually getting multiple machines in one. For example: If you look on Amazon, you will see that some products may contain your pull up station, push up station, and dip station. On my website, I have listed my favorite product. So don't forget to check that out.

No Wall Holes: To give credit where credit is due, I never even thought of this until after I read the Bright Hub article that I linked to above. With wall mounted pull up bars, you're going to have to drill holes into your wall. Doorway pull up bars are also notoriously known for scraping the paint off of the wall, and to a certain extent, damaging door frames. With free standing pull up bars, you don't have to ever worry about any of these problems.

One Time Setup: Compared to doorway pull up bars, which you are usually constantly hanging and detaching, once your'e setup, you're setup, and you have nothing more to worry about.

Workout with your Door Closed: For some people this is more of a positive than it is for others. Although some individuals can workout with their door open, I am personally the type of guy that likes my privacy. With a doorway pull up bar, I am constantly attaching and detaching. If I had a free standing pull up bar, I could simply workout with my door shut, and not have to worry about attaching and detaching the pull up bar every time I need to use it.

Usually have Wider Grips: If you have never used a doorway pull up bar before, then you should know that on a lot of them, the grips aren't very wide. If you're looking to do more wider grip pull ups (exercise), then you should definitely think about getting a free standing pull up bar, over any other type of pull up bar available.

Negatives

Now that you know the positives of getting a free standing pull up bar, let's go ahead and look at some of the negatives.

High in Price: Compared to other types of pull up bars, (mainly door), you will notice that free standing pull up bars are usually pretty high in price. This is a huge drawback, because nobody wants to spend $100 on a pull up bar, when they could get a decent one for $35. Am I right? I think I am right when I make that statement.

Takes up Space: Most of us middle class folks don't have enough room for a huge piece of equipment to just be laying around. This is why the door pull up bar was such a good invention: it takes up virtually no space.

Unstable / Low Ratings: I'm sad to say it, but the ongoing trend on Amazon seems to be that on average, doorway pull up bars seem to get rated better than free standing ones. Maybe my eyes are just playing tricks on me, but this definitely seems to be the trend, from what I can tell.

Adjustable Dumbbells

Before I end this article, I wanted you to be aware of somewhat of a new technology. Adjustable Dumbbells have been extremely popular lately, and are an essential part of any home gym.

There are many benefits to using adjustable dumbbells, compared to regular dumbbells. For example: Adjustable dumbbells take up barely any space. Also, when you have a huge set of dumbbells, it can get extremely difficult transporting them from one location to the next. Adjustable Dumbbells, (depending on the kind that you get), can be easily transported from one location to the next.

About a year ago, I purchased the Powerblock Adjustable Dumbbells, and they have been extremely essential to my success with the P90X workout program. I highly recommend checking out my Adjustable Dumbbells website to learn more about the Powerblocks, along with many other types of adjustable dumbbell sets.
