Help Free Tony the Tiger
Tony the Tiger lives in a small enclosure 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. He is permanently on view to the public amidst the noise, fumes and pollution of the cars and trucks that stop to refuel. Frequently taunted, the Truck Stop owner has put a sign up asking people not to throw things at the tiger.
Legislation passed in 1993 by Iberville Parish Council prohibits private ownership and display of exotic animals, including tigers, but has never been enforced. Animal Rights Campaigners attempted to have the law enforced but after a long battle with Tony the Tiger's owner, Michael Sandin, the Iberville Parish Council amended the law. On 14 December, 2009 the owner was given permission to keep Tony at the truck stop.
Big Cat Rescue has offered a home to Tony, but his owner has refused to hand him over.

Despite the fact that veterinary experts believe that Tony needs to be relocated, and properly cared for in order to be healthy,and happy, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries still continue to keep Tony in his living hell. Why is the Dept. ignoring expert advice on what is best for Tony? It’s long past the time to get your butts in gear, and put an end to Tony’s cruel existence once, and for all, or is there just no one in the USA animal welfare/cruelty/wildlife departments with enough clout to end this cruel saga? It is unbelievable that a country like the USA would allow a wild animal to be confined in a cage, and subjected to such horrific cruelty for the sick amusement of the public...It is indeed shameful,and unacceptable...Shame on all of those who ignore the experts, and continue to subject Tony to a sad, and cruel life in solitary confinement! Do the decent thing, and free Tony NOW!

Yes. He deserves a home fit for his natural needs and his health. Being locked in a cage at a truck stop is inhumane and being subjected to ridicule by humans throwing things in his cage is disgusting.

- Poor Tony :( I cannot get my head around why anyone should consider it acceptable to do this to a Tiger. I hope that Tony gets his comparative "freedom" soon. Kudos to you for doing something to help him and other Big Cats.

I just saw Valeria's comment, just below mine, where "The Louisiana Dept of Wildlife will be deciding Tony's fate in just a few months..." How can such a thing take so long? Yikes...
