Free Traffic Methods

You could have the world's best product, at the lowest price and best delivery system but if no one sees your offer you will starve.

In the internet marketing world, you need a flow of people to see your offer on a day in and day out basis. This flow of people is called traffic. And just like a stream of cars on a freeway passing by a billboard or storefront, the greater the flow of traffic the better your chances of having some of the right people see your offer.

In this lens we will touch on the skills needed to generate free traffic. A stream of people coming to your page or lens or blog, in the hopes that at least some if not a lot of them will be attracted to your offer.

Our Little Traffic Secret

When you are new, or broke, it's difficult to afford pay per click traffic. In this situation you need to focus on how to generate free traffic. Once you have mastered generating free traffic, you may want to stick with it, even later when you could invest in pay per click or other forms of paid traffic.

There are many ways to generate free traffic. These include search engine optimization, article marketing, and joint venture tactics such as giveaways and affiliate marketing.

Because so many people need to generate free traffic, there are a lot of would be guru teachers pushing methods to generate free traffic. Some are good, others are rehashing private label rights ebooks with little practical knowledge of their own.

While there are certainly some secret methods out there, most of what you will discover online are well known tools and techniques. That said, if you are new to internet marketing, you need to familiarize yourself with these as soon as possible. A a modest investment in traffic generation will often pay significant dividends, if you are careful to pick a reputable resource.

You can pay thousands or even tens of thousands for a content packed course on free traffic methods. The front end cost however kind of defeats the "Free" concept. But note, it remains true that you tend to get what you pay for. That said, I've found that you can get a lot of solid information and coaching if you look around for it.

For example, I recently came across a couple of young fellows who have put together a free report that points people in the right direction. They also offer a solid coaching program for an extremely low entry price of just a dollar. Now of course, they want you to buy into their ongoing program, which I recommend, but you don't have to.

I recommend you grab their free report, and sign up for their $1 trial and learn what you can, as fast as you can. Then you can decide whether their teaching style and content meets your needs. If it does, stick with them, if not go elsewhere.

There are many pieces to the internet marketing puzzle. Traffic generation is one of the bigger pieces.

Get their free report called, "Our Little Traffic Secret." When you sign up for it, they will offer you the deal on their coaching program for just $1. It's well worth checking out. If you decide you don't like or want to continue, you can cancel and not have to worry about any additional obligation. To promote this concept I have set up a new blogger blog called Generating Free Traffic

Search Engine Optimization

On of the basic tools to get traffic is to make your blog, web page or lens findable. Today most people use one or another of the search engines like Google or Yahoo to find information.

To be successful with this approach to internet marketing you need to understand what words or phrases your ideal customer is likely to actually type into their search engine when looking to buy your product. These are called keywords.

Advanced marketers will distinguish between keywords that represent a person looking for information vs keywords a person may be looking to actually buy a product. For example, someone interested in a digital camera might type in "digital cameras" while a buyer might type in Cannon 280G or some other model number.

Once you have a handle on which keywords matter to your market, you want to set up your pages to focus on the particular keyword phrase you want to attract people to.

There are many steps to this process which include both on page and off page factors.

The on page factors include making sure the meta tags are set up properly on your page. Meta tags are the invisible code behind your page. It's my experience that these are seldom done correctly as many web designers are actual oblivious to the marketing needs of their customers.

I have written a couple of ebooks on the topic, most notably Why Most Small Business Web Sites Stink and Main Street Rises to the Top of the Search Engines. I have a two for one sale at Combo Deal

Cross promotion using blogs, Squidoo, Hub pages etc

One of the best ways to promote your page so that it ranks higher in the search engines is to do some cross promoting using other vehicles such as other blogs, Squidoo lens, Hub pages etc. Here the objective is two fold. First to be in many places so more people can find you. And second and perhaps even more important to create back links to your site from elsewhere on the internet. These backlinks are of critical importance as they help build credibility for your site in the robotic eyes of the Google and other search engines "Bots" which roam the internet and play a critical role in how high the search engines rank your site. Generally the more back links you have, the higher your site will rank for your chosen keyword.

For example, one of my objectives with this lens is to promote a new blogger blog on the same topic as this lens. That's why I am including a link to it here. Generate Free Traffic

This link uses my keyword I want my blogger blog to rank for, ie "Generate Free Traffic." The actual blog title is Generating Free Traffic, but in my keyword research I determined that I had a better chance of ranking high on the term "Generate Free Traffic" so that is why I am focusing on that term.
