FREE Landline Phone (Home Phone) Solution using Google Voice

Ranked #4,826 in Computers & Electronics, #89,535 overall

For those of you that are not already familiar with it, Google Voice is becoming rather popular for allowing its users to make free phone calls and send text messages. As far as most of us thought, these are only withing USA and Canada, but that's not the truth. International calls fall into the same category: free. This article will teach you how to set up your home phone system without using a computer as a server. What you do need as means of communication is, of course, an internet connection. Follow the steps below and you can stop the monthly phone payments for ever (or at least until Google disappears, which ...is highly unlikely).

No Computer Required

For the solution that we are going to talk about there is no need to have a computer running 24/7. Does that make the Tech Guru inside you little curious? Yes, there is no need to have a dedicated computer system that runs as your Voip server. You can have a FREE home phone system without a computer system.

What you need for FREE Home Phone system

- Phone system (if you don't want to/ can't use the one you already have you can buy a DECT phone from Amazon - see below)

- High Speed Internet (broadband is fine, the only kind you'd have an issue with is Dial-up)

- Account with Google Voice - Get a different account than your everyday Gmail (see below for details)

- OBi110 Adapter (get in on Amazon for $49.99)

Set of instructions on how to make your google voice home phone system

1. First things first: get yourself an account with Google Voice.:

Go to http://google.com/voice and click register for a new account.

Select a number and verify it using your phone.

Go to Voice settings (under settings on top right) and 1) turn call screening OFF 2) Incoming number should be set to caller's number 3) Do not disturb should be off.

Additionally, make a call to a landline phone from the Gmail account using Call Phone option for this account. This is recommended by ObiHai as the steps to get this device working.

2. Press *** on your Obi110 device after connecting it to your adapter and landline phone. Read the IP address. Go to this page by ObiHai to complete Google voice set up.

Done!

And that should do it. Say goodbye to monthly payments to Vonage or similar.
Moreover, if you receive a lot of international calls, you can buy another OBI110 adapter and send it to your loved one. Just set it up the same way so that they can call anybody in the US or other countries for free.
