Nothing is better than getting free traffic from the search engines. Unfortunately, for many this can be a very complicated and difficult task. It involves picking good keywords for your website, optimizing your website for those chosen keywords, and then marketing your website for those keywords.

It will take time, and your search engine placement is not going to change over night. The best thing to do is be patient and work it one step at a time.

Starting your own blog is a very good idea. Having a blog can generate a lot of traffic to your site.

You can sign up for a free Blogger account and start posting today. They will host your blog on their server, or you can choose to have it reside on your domain.

Take a brief tour to learn more about blogging.

WordPress is another blogging tool. It is a weblog platform that is downloaded and installed on your domain. Or, you can sign up for a WordPress.com blog account that is hosted on their domain.

You can take a look at the WordPress Tutorials to learn more about WordPress and how to use it.

Once you have your blog set up, you're ready to start posting to it.

The idea here is to post content to your blog on a daily or weekly basis. You need original, fresh content.

I suggest hosting your blog on your own domain to get the most benefit from it. The search engines like it when you add new content to your website, so if you're posting to your blog all the time... new, frest content on your site :)

I suggest writing articles about your niche, or write reviews about products. Keep it relevant to your site.

Remember, you can advertise whatever you want on your blog. Put Adsense Ads on your blog and earn advertising revenue. The possibilites are endless.

If you are a network marketer or promote any sort of affiliate program there is a system called AllNetworkersTeam that will help you produce traffic and build your downline, absolutely free.

This new software shows other people's ads on your computer everytime your computer sits idle. You can set the range from 30 seconds to 10 minutes idle time, and you can even pause it all together. It's not annoying because it only shows ads when your not doing anything on your computer. You just have to exit them out or else they will stay up, so that could be annoying for some.

Sounds pretty cool right? Well one problem I have found is that it doesn't work right when my screensaver is running. It may just be my computer, who knows. The other problem, and a much bigger one, is that I hardly ever look at any of the ads that show up on my computer. So, how much do you wanna bet that the people that see my ad is doing the same?

Now, if you can write a killer ad and get people's attention, then I would say give it a try. The only thing I don't like is that you lose view credits only when your ad is shown... not clicked.

But anyway, you can check out Dont-Touch-My-Ads here. The site is run by Mike Filsaime, who happens to be a very well known internet marketer, and "guru" if you will. He owns a lot of kick-butt websites and usually comes out with some amazing products.

Oh, as a side note, there is a website called ScreenBlaze that does the same thing as Dont-Touch-My-Ads, except your ads get shown every time your screensaver runs. I'm gonna be checking it out soon, and I'll give an update and let you know what I think about it. Then I'll do a comparison of the two and give my recommendation.

It could take weeks or months to ever get listed though. If you want a sure-fire way of getting your website listed and having a company promote your website for you, there is a company called Spin Success.

Most of the keywords I bid on are around $30 to $50 per click to be the #1 spot. That doesn't mean you have to be number one though.

This service will work even if you don't own your own website. You can promote any affiliate URL of your choice. I think it is better to have your own website if you are going to use this service, but that is entirely up to you.

Social networking allows people to interact with each other by the use of forums, instant messaging, videos, pictures, and a lot more. Users are able to post a profile that contains information about themselves, pictures that they want to share, videos that they find interesting, games, etc. Users can send friend or contact requests for others to add them to their list. People can post bulletins, message someone on their friend or contact list or someone who isn't, tag other people's pictures to their profile, interact through forums and much more. The best part about social networking is that you have the ability to post ads on your profile. This can be used to promote your business. Now, before I go any further I must say that while this sounds like an easy way to get traffic, and in some cases it can be, this can also be a complete waste of your time. A lot of people advertise some sort of business opportunity or affiliate program. Thats fine, but with 1,000's of people promoting affiliate programs, I suggest you offer something unique. You will get some clicks if you promote a business opportunity, and I'm not saying you shouldn't. But when you're talking traffic exchanges, you want to stand out. That either means you right a killer ad that will get people's attention, or you offer something no one has seen before.
