Top Tip 3 - Use Alexa's Toolbar  

Offer your visitors a free customized Alexa toolbar

This is definitely top of my list of things that every webmaster should do, but which many people don't.

Alex is a very well respected company who track website visitors to virtually every single site on the net and rank them according to the number of visitors and page views they get, their reach and so on. As well as publishing the alexa rank they also offer more detailed stats for sites in the top 100,000. They do this by using their toolbars and some browsers (not microsoft internet explorer) to monitor peoples browsing habits.

If you have your own site then you can customize the alexa toolbar with your own branding and links to your site and then offer it for your visitors to install from your site. Benefits for your visitors include the alexa rank and other info on the sites they visit, such as the backlinks they have, from their browser, and other tools such as a button to visit similar sites, amazon search and so on.

The benefits for you as the webmaster are that you earn commission through anything purchased from amazon through your toolbar, you get a link to your site in the browser of everyone who installs th toolbar, and if more of your visitors have an alexa toolbar then your site will get a higher rank, and that in turn could help you to get a better position in google search results, as many people beleive that google uses alexa stats in their search ranking algorhythms.
