For richer or poorer
A big question on anyone's mind as they venture into the world of online free money is "how much can I make?" Well, surely there are people out here who have struck online oil, but I certainly don't know who they are. What I'm after, and what I give you the means to do here, is to earn enough to buy a week of groceries for yourself, or a tank of gas (provided you don't drive a Hummer).
When beginning to explore the paying part of the internet, begin with realistic goals. Clicking on links emailed to you is yes, only going to pay 2 cents per click. But it takes half of a second. Wanna get $20, then be ready to spend at least 30-45 minutes fill out a survey. And try different sites. Most of the time, my joining one good sites leads me to two other I didn't know about. And even if your link-clicking is only adding up to $10 a month, do that on 5 different sites, and there is your tank of gas. :)

You'll download a bar that you place somewhere on you desktop or computer screen. It'll run ads through it as you do anything on your computer, so long as you're connected to the internet. After a period of inactivity, the little walking man logo will sleep, and the ads will do blank, simply pass your cursor over him to confirm that you are still at your computer, and it will resume seamlessly. You accumulate points displayed in the bar, at a rate of about 25-30 per minute, and approximately 1000 points earns you $1. The site pays out by check whenever your account reaches $50 (or more, depending on your choice).
Having the bar appear on my screen was a bit annoying at first, but since it earns me money, I got used it. It makes on noise, and never gives you any pop-ups at all. You also need not click on anything, just simply let the bar whenever your computer is on, and your points will accumulate.

What hasn't worked for me
So in all the time I've been trying out different sites that promise you money online, there have been quite a few that haven't worked out for me. Some advertised that they're free to earn points, but then suddenly you have to pay them a fee in order to actually be able to cash those points or use them to get prizes.
Other sites, such as Your2Cents and The Survey Pro are in fact free, but the odds of you ever making money are 1 in 1,000,000. First, these sites made me spend God knows how long filling out background surveys to figure out which demographics I fit, and promised to send me surveys that are looking to question my demographic in particular. Sounds good, right? No wasted time filling out surveys you don't even qualify for. Wrong. After more than 6 months, neither of these sites had sent me a surveys I qualified for. They sent me surveys- dozens upon dozens of them, but after I'd spend 10 or 15 minutes filling each one out, it would tell me I didn't qualify! (Despite the sites' claim that they based the surveys sent on the information I had given them.) I no longer use either site. I decided it was a waste of too much time, for no payout whatsoever.
If those sites have worked for you, then more power to ya. You have better luck than I do.
Luckily, though, I've found other sites that have worked very well for me.
