The Cream of the Crop!

Here is a list of some of my own personal favorite digi brush-makers! All the icons on this lens were made by me to give you an idea of what each designer's work is like... and also to make it look pretty. I hope you enjoy browsing their sites and hopefully you'll fall in love, too.

What if you don't have Photoshop, but use Paintshop Pro instead? Near the bottom I've got information on how to convert .abr files into images you can make into PSP brushes!

Brush Links

Here are some of my favorite sites where I usually go to discover new brush-makers. If you find that your tastes differ from mine, be sure to check out these sites to discover your own favorites!
PhotoshopSupport.com
Approximately 30 links highlighting top brush designers and their sites.
Brusheezy.com
Brusheezy is a place for artists to download and vote for some of the best custom Photoshop brushes and Photoshop patterns on the net.
BrushKing
A huge resource of hundreds of wonderful brushes, all available for immediate download. Very fancy site!
chez Plumeau
A helpful little site to redirect you to 500 different brush sets from some fabulous brush makers.

Obsidian Dawn

I have several brushes from Obsidian Dawn in my personal stash. These swirly flowers shown here are a part of my favorite collection (Swirls II). And there are about 100 more where these came from. Drop in and download. Then enjoy!

Seishido

There are not only a ton of great brushes for free at Seishido, there are also several sets for sale at some really reasonable prices. There are also commercial licenses available, again at good rates!

This brush here is part of a collection entitled "Finally" and they are some of my favorite brushes from Seishido-but honestly, it's hard to pick just one!

BittBox

BittBox is more than just a site full of great brushes--it's a designer resource! You will find large brushes, fonts, vectors and links to all sorts of great stuff you can use in your designs at BittBox. It's one of my most favorite blogs!

These images here are part dirty watercolor brush, part leaf brush. Both can be found here.

Spy Glass

There are a ton of fabulous brushes over at Spy-Glass.net. From dirty brushes to flourishes (like these here from the Baroque collection), there's something for everyone here!

Plus, the design of the site is beautiful! It's worth a stop just to admire it.

Flyguy Designs

Another set of giant brushes I love to use were designed by the Flyguy. My favorite sets were discovered on Brusheezy: Fly Trap and Geisel Garden (shown here). Sample brushes for other collections are also available.

1LovesDevine

These brushes from 1LovesDevine are also huge (in the 1500 px range). And they include some of the coolest paisley elements, too! There are two brushes shown here, one from the Paisley Love collection (v5) and the other from the v6 collection. Plus, there are even more designs to download in the gallery. Enjoy!

What About Paintshop Pro Users?

"We like brushes, too!"

I used to only have PSP, so I know how you guys feel looking at all the nice .abr ("Adobe Brush") files, wondering how to get into to them and get at all the pretty brushes. Here's what you can do!

1) Download abrViewer, a nifty program that will open up an .abr file, allow you to look at each brush and save them as .png files!

2) Install the program and click on the Select Folder button to locate where you've saved your .abr files.

3) Load the brushes into abrViewer and then select Export > Thumbnails. Save into a new folder. This folder will then automatically open for you when you're done!

4) Open the new .png files in PSP to save them as brushes one at a time. One thing to note: you can only have brushes up to 500 px in size, so you may need to resize your images first.

5) To make a new brush in PSP, select File > Export > Custom Brush. Name your brush and then go to town!

Enjoy!

But You Really Should Buy Photoshop

I used to scoff at the price of Photoshop. Now that I've purchased it, I know why it costs so much-it's an amazingly powerful tool. You know you want it... here's where you can get it!

I scoffed at the price too, but it really is a fantastic program that goes so much beyond images like creating websites and blogs, for example.
