The Powerex MAHA MH-C808M Battery Charger Review
Powerful tool for managing rechargeable batteries
The MAHA MH-C808M Battery Recharger is the ultimate battery recharger for both consumers and pros.
Using sophisticated microprocessor electronics combined with intelligent design and an informative LCD panel, the MAHA recharges both NiCAD and NIMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries using a choice of three different charging modes.
This Powerex recharger has the flexibility to charge D, C, AA and AAA batteries. And unlike many other lesser rechargers, you can mix different sizes in the same charging cycle. There are eight charing stations provided, and each can fit any of the sizes.
In my house, this quite helpful as my kids won't cooperate by using the same size batteries at the same time.
Three Charging Modes
The MAHA defaults to a "fast" recharging mode which recharges batteries as quickly as safely possible.
In this mode an AAA or AA battery takes about an hour to fully charge. C and D batteries can take from 1 to 5 hours depending on their condition.
It also has a "Soft" mode which is ideal for older NiCad batteries. The soft mode is gentler on the batteries and therefor provides longer battery life. This is the mode I normally use.
Finally, there is a "Condition" mode which initiates a computer-controlled cycle of deep discharge and recharge. During the process, the microprocessor is monitoring the battery condition so it doesn't overheat and decrease battery life.
Although this cycle can take a long time, it results in an optimal functioning battery.
LCD Panel Keeps You Informed
The MAHA has an LCD panel that lets you know the status of each battery.

You can clearly see the percentage completion of each battery and it tells you when they are done. It also displays the mode in which you are charging.
How to Get Free Rechargeable Batteries
Background: I have been using rechargeable batteries almost exclusively for several years now, going back to crude Nicads with low power and life.
Of course, one of the problems with Nicads is that they develop a "memory" which prevents them from being fully charged, eventually rending them ineffective.
I had a small stash of Nicads in a drawer, waiting for a trip to the dump where they have a special section for batteries.
But then I got the MAHA and on a whim I decided to put the old Nicads through a "Condition" cycle to see if they could be resurrected. Much to my surprise, it worked perfectly and the batteries functioned as new.
Fast Forward: I am at my local dump/recycling center with a bag full of old alkaline batteries to dispose of. Then I see a bin for rechargeable battery disposal. I was surprised at this, but realized that apparently many people get rid of Nicads all the time because of their memory problems.
The bin had 8 AA Nicad batteries among a bunch of other strange sizes, cell phone batteries, etc.
I took the 8 AAs home and fed them to the MAHA. Eureka! The next morning, after a full "Condition" charge, they worked perfectly.
Since then, I've "recycled" about a dozen batteries and put them to use in my home, saving them from disposal and waste.
I figure the MAHA has already paid back a significant chunk of the investment I made by saving me from buying batteries for kids toys, etc.
Summary: If your local recycling center has a bin for battery disposal, check it out. You will be doing yourself and the environment a favor by recycling old rechargeable batteries using the powerful functionality of the MAHA MH-C808M Battery Recharger.
