Free Cell Phone Ringtones

Have you been to ringtone sites and even other lenses here that make the almighty claim that their ringtones are free? Believing what you read, you click on their outbound links only to find you are hit up for charges? Wrong I know. If this has happened to you, I would like to hear about it and so would others. COMPLIMENTARY VS FREE

Websites selling ringtones are no longer allowed to use the words "Free, No Charge, No Cost, Bonus" or any other term to mean Free. The only promotional term allowed for giving away Ringtones (or any other mobile content) is "Complimentary". In fact, a webpage cannot even use the word "Free" in their url. So if you find a website not adhering to the above, they can be shutdown very easily by contacting the affiliate networks they belong to.

Now to the average person, complimentary means free, but not according to the mobile phone companies and the law apparently.

LET THE DEFINITION DECIDE

According to dictionary.com, the term free is a synonym (meaning the same) as the word complimentary. Look it up yourself to see the truth.

I'M NOT TRYING TO BASH RINGTONES

Ringtones are great if you want to personalise your phone with music you love. There are as many ringtones as their are songs. I'm not trying to bash ringtones here, but rather give an insight into the "gray" area of free cell phone ringtones.

THE ONLY WAY TO FREE RINGTONES

If you really want free ringtones, then the only way is to create them yourself. Very possible and easily done once you have the software. Don't be scared off though, as the software is relatively cheap and can be bought for less than $50. There are a number of ringtone maker softwares in the market. One I have used and like is put out by AVS Media. Don't forget though, you will need to own the songs you want to use - don't get caught up in illegal peer-to-peer file sharing networks unless you want to spend a few months in jail.

SHOULD I BUY

Whilst getting something for free is always great, you have to ask yourself is it worth the time and hassle to attain it. If you are busy enough as it is, and don't want these hassles, then opting for the paid method is great. It's as simple as one, two, three!
