Free Classified Advertising Tutorial -- Introduction

Introduction  | Classified Ad Requirements and Headlines  |  Body Copy  |  Other Info and Links

This tutorial will take you step by step through the process of preparing and submitting a good quality classified ad which you can post for FREE on many Internet classified ad sites. While many Internet classified ad sites have some instructions to help you post an ad, sometimes these instructions are confusing, or lack detail. This tutorial explains the steps -- in detail -- to create and post a classified ad, and it gives you some tips for writing better ads that will help get you the results you desire.

It has four parts (navigation is at the top and bottom of the pages). To make this process as easy as possible:

  • It will use a fictional Web site as a model.
  • It will give you TIPS on things to help you -- and things to avoid.
  • It will give you a set of links to some free classified ad sites that you can use to get started, and some other sites that you will find useful.

For the best results, read the tutorial in order. Avoid the temptation to jump to the links area and dive right in, this could be a problem if you don't know the basics!

The Need To Advertise

"Build it and they will come" was a great line in a good movie, but not even the studio followed that advice -- they advertised and publicized the film!

The same is true of your Web site or on-line store, blog, etc.

Getting it together, getting your domain name, having it up on the Net, etc. is just one step of many, because once it is ON the Net, you now must tell people -- the RIGHT people -- about it so THEY WILL come!

You will find a lot of sites and programs (usually at a cost) that will tell you that you must have TRAFFIC. This is true, up to a point. The problem with the logic is that there is a huge difference between traffic and TARGETED traffic. To successfully sell, you need targeted traffic.

Think about it.

Many people drive their cars past a store. They SEE the store, and that is all.

SOME drive their cars into the parking lot and go into the store to buy things.

What gets some people to drive their cars into the parking lot and then buy from the store? That's the trick!

That's where targeted advertising and publicity comes in. And this is where many people drop the ball.

Advertising and publicity -- often referred to as marketing -- is daunting and expensive -- or is it?

Actually you can do some of this yourself, and for FREE!

Once source is FREE Internet Classified Ad Sites.

Classified Ad Sites can be a very useful marketing tool because you create a compelling short ad which you place in a specific category and target to a geographical location (this can be the entire planet). This focuses your offering to a greater customer potential than raw traffic.

People who read classified ads -- and there are millions -- look in the category of their interest, and their geographical location (if it applies), see your ad -- along with many others -- and if your ad is compelling, they go to your Web site to buy.

This is the basis of targeted traffic, which Classified Ads are very good at attracting.

Play By The Rules!

Most classified ad sites post very specific rules, especially regarding adult content material and affiliate marketers. You should read these rules very carefully. If you abuse their system, you can be blocked from ever using it again. You should also have something legitimate to sell, not a scam or scheme. Again, if you get caught trying to scam or push a scheme, you can be blocked and banned.

On the other hand, using a classified ad site to sell a product you make, or are authorized to sell, or simply to get interest in your Web site, is a perfectly legitimate use of classified ad sites. Always read the rules for each classified ad site before doing anything with them.

Getting Started

Now that you have an idea of what classified ad sites can do, read through the rest of this tutorial to learn how to make them work for you. Many classified ad sites allow FREE submissions, so you have nothing to lose. It is an easy and potentially effective way to manage your own marketing.

A well written classified ad can get you a lot of customers.

A poorly written ad will get you nothing.
